Devine
Oct 20, 1930 — Sep 5, 2014
Alice Mary (Morse) Devine – 83, of Burlington and formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 5, 2014. Alice was born in Duxbury on October 20, 1930, the daughter of the late Harvey and Grace (Batchelder) Morse. Alice attended Duxbury Elementary School and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1948. On July 2, 1949 she married Raymond Devine in Waterbury where they remained until April 2003 when they moved to Burlington. Alice worked at Waterbury Elementary School in food service for 24 years and later at Centonze Family Dentistry in Waterbury before retiring in 1992. Alice enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, knitting and playing bingo. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. Surviving are sons Richard and his wife Gwendolyn of Waterbury and Michael and his wife Jo-Ann of Burlington; her grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Adrienne, Adam, Bridget and her husband Marcin and Derek Devine, as well as her great grandchildren Sophia, Noah and Natalie. Alice was overjoyed to learn recently that there will be twin great grandchildren in February. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert Morse and his wife Nancy of Plainfield and her twin, Alan Morse and his wife Sang of Zephyrhills, Florida and brother-in-law Lyle Peterson of South Burlington; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, she leaves her bingo buddies, Linda and Mary. She also leaves her beloved four-legged friend Amber. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband Raymond with whom she shared 63 wonderful years as well as two brothers, Clyde and Harvey Morse. The family would like to thank those who provided exceptional care and comfort to Alice, particularly Dr. Amy Siegle and the staff at Appletree Bay Medical Center, the staff at Vermont Family Pharmacy as well as those at the VNA and the Vermont Respite House. It was Alice's desire that private graveside services be held for family in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Visiting Nurses Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester VT 05446 (www.vnacares.org), or to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston VT 05495.
