Obituary

Ann T. Montague 1931 -2025

With Profound sadness the family of Annie Montague announce that she will be placed to her final resting place next to her beloved Husband Harry Montague who pre-deceased her 10 yrs ago.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday May 9th 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Brookside cemetery on Maple tree lane in Westford Vermont.

Immediately after the graveside service a reception and celebration of her 94 years of well lived life will be held at the Westford "Red meeting house" at: 1685 VT-Rte 128 Westford Vermont 05494 (which is at the East end of the Westford Town common "Oval" on the "paved" side of the common. Approximately 2.5 miles down Brookside road from the cemetery.)

Ann passed away peacefully and quiet, after a very tough fight of a couple weeks of severe illness which turned to be too much for her 94 yr old body to handle. She is pre-deceased by her beloved Husband Harry Montague and daughter Cynthia Whalen,Sister Evelyn Thomas, and her brother Pete/ Steven Thomas of Green Cove Springs FL. Ann is survived by son's Darryl and Kevin Montague and several grand kids and great grand children.

Ann was born and raised near Savannah Georgia in the heart of the south and in the middle of the period of Great Depression and had many challenges during their younger years. But it evoked a nearly endless work ethic and a passion for the community environment of neighbors helping each other. She always said that growing up in the poor south in very tough economic times made her even more determined to try to provide the best life possible for family and her loved ones. After her mother passed when she was 20 yrs old she moved north to be near family in NY.

She worked in NYC for several years until she moved north to Poughkeepsie where she started work at IBM in 1955 and after a couple years there she met the love of her life Harry Montague. They were married and enjoyed 55 good years of marriage before his passing. They raised 3 children Kevin, Cynthia and Darryl. They both were able to retire together after over 30 years at IBM on the same day and walked out of the IBM Essex Junction plant with ceremony for the last time together.

She truly treasured all friends that she knew even those that she was seldom able to cross paths with. Even having spent her adult life in the north section of the country she always held onto the southern charm and desire to be helpful with neighbors and friends. She was mostly bashful and not a big talker but truly enjoyed visiting with nearly anyone. If you ever heard her say "Your alright!" Or "Your ok" that was a clear sign she held you in very high regard and she really appreciated your friendship. She was always extremely bashful about speaking in public but at the same time she had a great level of desire to always be involved and be one to lend a hand to help out a person or a group without expecting or even wanting recognition. She had a deeply held philosophy of hoping that she could leave what little pieces of the world that she could touch a better place than when she got there.

Beyond working at IBM and taking care of family. She served Westford as a JP and did many town office and school functions for about 20+ years. She also helped at nearly every function of the VT Federation of Sortsmen's Clubs for 35+ years to help in many capacities but especially to help prepare for events and functions and staffing of booths at many, many shows. Even in her later years while no longer physically able to actively be involved she would often express a desire to want to still help with many of the Federations functions. Many times even after being in her late 80's and past 90 yrs old she would state "I wish I could do more"

After retirement and in her senior citizen years she greatly enjoyed visits from nearly anyone who just wanted to come sit for a while, have coffee and listen / tell stories.

In lieu of flowers if you are inclined a contribution of any amount to the Vermont Federation of Sportsmens Clubs - [Montague-Keenan Fund for conservation and Training] . In her memory.
