Bruce J. Fischer, age 74, of Swanton Vermont passed away on January 3, 2025.
Bruce was born on September 18, 1950 in Pheonix Arizona, son of Bernard and May Fischer.
Bruce attended schools in Long Island NY and graduated from St. Michaels College in
1972 earning a bachelor's degree in fine arts. Bruce married Bernadette (Boutin) Fischer on
June 3, 1972, at St. Michael's College Chapel. The were married for 52 ½ years. A
devoted husband and father Bruce leaves behind his sons Brian J. Fischer of Calais, VT
and Topher B. Fischer of Swanton, VT and his fiancée Jennifer Lavalley, five brothers
and sisters; Barbara (Fischer) Barlow of Oxford, Florida, Kathy (Fischer) Dyer and
husband John of Monroe, Connecticut, Fletcher Fischer and his wife Rachel of
Bloomfield Connecticut, Mark Fischer and wife Margaret of Wilmington, North Carolina
and Beth (Fischer) Tarde and husband Jerry Tarde of Fairfield, Connecticut and many
nieces and nephews. In his early years, Bruce was an altar boy and attended seminary
school.
Bruce was active in the Boy Scouts and participated in several folk mass
organizations. In college he acted in and directed many plays and developed skills as a
set designer as well as an accomplished carpenter musician. Throughout his work life
Bruce wore many different hats from Production Technician and TV Director at Vermont
PBS to Manager of fleet car and truck sales and most recently, theater teacher to
elementary school youth. Bruce was an active member of the Rotary Club, being an
essential part of starting the Milton/Colchester Rotary Club as well as a member in other
chapters in Elsworth Maine, Barre Vermont and St. Albans Vermont.
At Bruce's request
there will be no wake or viewing, or formal funeral. There will be a Memorial Mass at St.
Michaels College Chapel on Saturday January 18, 2025 at 11:00am, reception will
follow.
