Carol G.
Moore
Nov 20, 1951 — Jun 5, 2024
Colchester – Carol Moore, 72, of Colchester, died Wednesday June 5, 2024, at UVM Medical Center in Burlington after a long battle with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other health issues.
Carol was born at Barre City Hospital on November 20, 1951 to James and Agnes (Cabak) Flood and grew up in Montpelier. She attended Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, transferred for her final year to American School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut for further job training.
In 1975, Carol married Ronald Goodell, and they made a home with her parents in Montpelier. They had a son, James, and a daughter, Mary Jane. Ronald died unexpectedly in 1992 at age 49. After her first husband's passing Carol married a childhood friend, Allen Moore. Allen was a loving and caring husband through all their 24 years of marriage together.
Carol worked at the Vermont Department of Employment and Training for 30 years, retiring in 2005. After retirement she continued working part-time at Saint Michael's College in the café with Allen until 2014, when she was no longer able to work due to her health.
When she was younger, Carol had been an active member and leader of TRIPOD (Barre/Montpelier Association of the Deaf), with her late first husband, Ronald. Carol has always been an advocate for the deaf community and taught several American Sign Language (ASL) classes at Community College of Vermont (CCV) in Montpelier.
Carol courageously persevered through every challenge and adversity life presented her, from the very beginning. Her playful sense of humor and warm spirit brought joy to all who knew her.
She found delight in cooking new recipes, sharing precious moments with family and friends, and embarking on adventures across New England with her loving husband, Allen. Carol enjoyed discovering new treasures while shopping, adorned her home with seasonal cheer, and found solace in the embrace of her favorite church, Hands of Grace Deaf Church in Cambridge, VT. Her deep faith and the comfort of prayer were guiding lights, shaping her life with hope and light.
Carol leaves behind her husband Allen Moore, her son James Goodell, of Forest, Virginia, her daughter Mary Jane and her son-in-law Jake Sturtevant, and granddaughter Sierra Miller, of Auburn, Maine. Also her sister Susan and husband Paul Karp, of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and sister Diane Mackay, of East Calais, Vermont, along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at LaVigne Funeral & Cremation Service, 132 Main Street in Winooski from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A celebration of life and a separate private burial will take place in August, with more details to come at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Yolande Henry Community Fund c/o VTAD (Vermont Association for the Deaf) P.O. Box 254, Underhill, VT 05489.
The family would like to thank the dialysis staff at Joy Drive in South Burlington for their kind treatment of Carol, the Saint Michael's College EMTs for their frequent assistance, and for the interpreters at Vancro Integrated Interpreting Services for representing Carol's voice, and being a part of Carol's life every step of the way throughout the years.
