Carol A. Plunkett
A long-time resident of Waterbury, Vermont, Carol (Dibbell) Plunkett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14th at Central Vermont Hospital, in Berlin Vermont. During which time she was under the loving care of Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice.
Born on September 10, 1943, in Burlington, Vermont, she was the daughter of Marion (Churchill) Dibbell and John Allen Dibbell.
In her youth, she attended Waterbury High School. It was in Waterbury where she met her spouse of 62 years, Oliver Plunkett, when his family re-located from Tennessee to Waterbury to work on the Interstate Project. Together they raised two children, Ray Plunkett of Waterbury Center and Stacy (Plunkett) Lang of Dandridge Tennessee.
Carol started her career as a bank teller for The Bank of Waterbury, which later became First Vermont Bank. Additionally, she worked in accounting for various local businesses over the years, including Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and the Waterbury Town Clerk’s office.
Carol was a wonderful lady known best for her witty, dry, sense of humor. During her vibrant years she was very active. She loved traveling to visit friends and relatives, and playing cards with her close-knit friends and neighbors. Earlier in life she was on several local bowling leagues with her life-long friends. After retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed her membership at the Blush Hill Country Club where she was known to be whenever she possibly could.
Later in life she was forced to slow down due to an auto-immune disease. During this time, she enjoyed visiting with neighbors and close friends (while they drank coffee and smoked cigarettes!).
She is survived by her two children, Ray and Stacy. She is also survived by her brother David Dibbell of Avon Lake, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband Oliver, as well as her brother Kenneth Dibbell.
The Plunkett family is extremely grateful for the dedicated and caring staff of The Gary Residence in Montpelier Vermont where she was residing, as well as the compassionate staff at Woodridge Rehab and Nursing during her most recent stay. Lastly, they would like to give thanks to her special friend, Lori Ashley, with whom she grew very fond of and looked forward to her time with.
The family would welcome you to join them on Friday, October 23rd, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main Street Waterbury, Vermont, for a gathering of friends. For those who wish memorial contributions in Carol’s memory can be made to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, www.cvhh.org/donate.
