Charlene
Greene
Mar 15, 1940 — Jul 11, 2024
ESSEX – Charlene (Viens) Greene, 84, of South Burlington died peacefully on July 11, 2024 at Maple Ridge Memory Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born March 15, 1940, she was a daughter of the late George and Simonne (Morin) Viens. Charlene grew up in Winooski and was a 1958 graduate of Winooski High School. She married the late Ronald Greene, raising a family in the Burlington area and spending nearly 50 years together. Charlene was employed by F.J. Preston & Son Jewelers and then the City of Burlington, working for both the Clerk/Treasurer's Office and the Electric Department.
She had a wide variety of interests from gardening and bowling to attending live concerts and plays. Charlene was a regular volunteer usher at St. Michael's Playhouse and the Flynn Theatre. One of her favorite things to do in life was travel. In Charlene's retirement, she enjoyed countless trips to Las Vegas, summer visits to Nantucket and spending winter getaways with friends in Florida. Her last major adventure was a trip to Israel, touring Jerusalem and swimming in the Dead Sea. As a devout Catholic, this trip to the Holy Land was very meaningful to Charlene. Her absolute pride and joy were her grandchildren, never missing a single sporting event, awards ceremony or other school activity.
Charlene is survived by her daughter Robbin Greene and partner Jerome Wells of Sheldon, son Michael Greene of Alburgh, son Jason Greene and wife Laura of Williston, twin sister Pauline Guenther of Burlington, grandchildren Jordan, Rachel, Tyler, Adam, Owen and Andrew along with several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Germaine Curran.
A private graveside service will be held. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all those who helped care for Charlene in her final years including Dr. Halle Sobel and the staffs at Mansfield Place, Maple Ridge Memory Care and UVM Home Health & Hospice.
