Obituary

Dana S. MacArthur, 66, of Burlington, VT passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, October 24th following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on March 7, 1958 in South Burlington, VT, the son of Everett MacArthur and the late Yvette (Malzac) MacArthur. He was a graduate of South Burlington High School, class of 1976, where he was a standout football player and co-captain of the team. On June 30, 1984 he married Vicki-Lyn Cunningham. Dana was above all a family man, hardworking, and a devout Patriots fan. If he wasn't on the jobsite, he was spending time with his kids and grandkids who were his everything. He was an avid music lover, which included anything from the Spice Girls to Lawrence Welk to Whitney Houston to Kenny Chesney. There wasn't a song he didn't enjoy. After his service in the US Army, Dana went to work in the construction industry, which ignited a passion inside him.

He spent the next 40+ years working his way up through the ranks and earning everyone's love and respect along the way. He ended his career with DEW Construction, where he became a mentor and teacher to many of his co-workers. During the Patriots off season Dana could be found, feet up in his favorite chair, watching Dale Sr. and then Jr., racing laps and taking checkered flags. One of his other favorite past times was collecting rocks on any adventure he happened to be on.

Dana is survived by his wife Vicki-Lyn MacArthur, his daughter Kaitlin and her partner Shane; his son Justin and his wife Alex, and his daughter Hannah; grandchildren, Hunter, Madison and McKenna; his father Everett and wife Sandra; his brother Tom and wife Sandi; his sister Marie and husband Mark, and his sister Tonya and husband Michael. Dana is also survived by his in-laws Brad and Jill Cunningham, Cindy and Bernie Carty, and Steven and Mary Cunningham; and by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews and all their children. Dana is also survived by his much loved and appreciated extended work family at DEW Construction.

Dana was predeceased by his mother Yvette (Malzac) MacArthur, his father and mother-in-law Eldred and Arlene Cunningham; his brothers-in-law Gary, Bruce and Brian Cunningham; his sisters-in-law Michelle Bara and Vicky Cunningham; his cousin Cindy Mokritski, his cousin Bill and wife Lorraine Currier, his cousin Larry "Smite" Smith, his uncle George Chates, his best friend Steve Cherrier and his first grandbaby Emma Bartell.
