Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Diane Couture, who passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at Central Vermont Medical Center following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Morrisville, Diane was born July 4, 1957. She graduated from Peoples Academy in 1976 and went on to build a life defined by hard work and determination. Over the years, she worked in cleaning and custodial roles—often more than one at a time—and took great pride in her work. She was especially proud of her 26 years as an employee of Lamoille County Mental Health.

Diane was known for her incredible work ethic, stoic nature, and no nonsense exterior. She never shied away from hard work and rarely held back her thoughts, believing strongly in honesty and giving your all. She often joked that anyone working less than 40 hours a week just wasn't trying hard enough. Beneath that no-nonsense exterior, however, was a deeply caring and generous person.

She was fiercely proud of her daughters, Tara Audet of Morrisville, Vermont, and Bobbie Amerio (Wendell) of Rutland, Vermont. She held a very special place in her heart for her grandson, Emmett Amerio.

To Diane, coworkers were more than colleagues—they were family. She built lasting connections, offering support, loyalty, and humor to those around her. She had a playful side as well—if you left candy on your desk, it might mysteriously disappear, only to reappear later as a thoughtful gesture for someone else who needed a lift. She also cared deeply about the environment and made sure those around her always put their recycling where it belonged.

She loved coffee and lived independently, valuing her privacy.

Once you got past her tough exterior, you found someone with a true heart of gold—someone who cared deeply, gave freely, and showed up for others time and time again. She will be remembered for her strength, her dry humor, her honesty, and the unique way she made people feel seen, supported, and part of her extended family.

She is survived by her mother, Jewel Godin; her sister, Joie Marshall; her daughters and grandson. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Godin, and her sister, Lois Doe.

A public graveside service will be held at Wheeler Cemetery on Washington Highway in Morrisville on May 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., with a celebration of life at the Wing Center to follow immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lamoille Area Cancer Network .

She will be deeply missed.
