Doris Stevens, 90, of Essex Junction, passed away peacefully on July 13 at the UVM Medical Center. Doris was born in Colchester, VT in March 1934. She was the daughter of Isabelle and Richard Daigle of Winooski.
After graduation, Doris worked as a telephone operator for several years before marrying her loving husband, Albert in 1956. After their marriage they moved to Essex Junction where they raised their family. Doris volunteered for years at the Gift Shop at the Fanny Allen Hospital and worked in retail for a number of years for friends. This was in addition to supporting her husband starting his own Real Estate company and raising their 3 children. Doris and Al eventually bought a home on Ft Myers Beach in Florida and became snowbirds there for years. Doris made many good friends during this time. Doris and Al were kind and generous people and lived a great life together until Al's passing in November 2023.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, husband Albert, sisters Catherine Critchlow and Carolyn Daigle, brothers James and Charles Daigle, sisters-in-law Barbara, Sally, Nancy and Lillian Stevens. Brothers- in-law Thomas Thibodeau and Glen Critchlow. She leaves behind her daughter Diane, son Robert (Tonya) daughter Laurie, sister Irene Thibodeau and brother Richard (Janet) Daigle, in-laws Marvin Stevens, Larry (Jane) Stevens and Martha (Gary) Cone along with many much-loved nieces and nephews. Her niece, Beth Desautels, brought much comfort and love to Doris in her final days.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Family Church on Tuesday, July 23 at 11:00am with a Graveside Burial to follow at Holy Family Cemetery at noon. A memorial luncheon will take place at the Holy Family Parish Hall at 12:30pm.
Doris was a sweet and kind mom and loving wife. She will be missed dearly and will never be forgotten.
