Dorothy D.
Mazza
Sep 9, 1943 — Nov 6, 2024
Dorothy D. Mazza - Colchester
Heaven welcomed another angel on November 6, 2024, when God called Dorothy "Dolly" Darling (Hinds) Mazza home. After years of bravely facing the challenges of strokes and lung cancer, Dolly took her last breath surrounded by her loving family, and she is now at peace.
Born in Burlington, Vermont, on September 9, 1943, to Donald and Marguerite (Audette) Hinds, Dolly was the youngest of two daughters. Her childhood was spent in various states, including Washington, Utah, Hawaii (her favorite) and New York, as her father served as an Army officer. Ultimately, the family returned to Vermont.
Dolly followed in her mother's footsteps and cherished her lifelong career as a bookkeeper. She skillfully managed the finances of the family business, Dick Mazza's General Store in Colchester, alongside her husband of 58 years.
Family, friends, and a deep desire to help others were the cornerstones of Dolly's life. She expressed her love through countless handmade gifts—sweaters, blankets, hats, mittens, and Christmas stockings—made for those she cherished. Dolly also crafted jewelry, donating over $110,000 to local organizations in need. Her kindness extended to strangers as well, as she made it her mission to bring unexpected smiles and hope to others. She was a proud member of the Holy Cross Church choir and loved singing praise to the Lord Almighty. To honor Dolly's memory, let us all embrace her spirit of kindness. Share a smile, perform random acts of kindness, and give thanks for the blessings of each day.
Dolly is survived by her devoted children, Mike Mazza (Lynn) and Melissa Mazza-Paquette (David Paquette); her adoring grandchildren, Erik Mazza (Emily) and MacKenzie Mazza (Blaze Vogliano); her sweet great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Caroline; and her older sister, Patricia "Pat" Cavallari—her best friend. She was predeceased by her parents and the love of her life, Richard "Richie/Dick" Mazza. Dolly also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends who touched her heart deeply.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Church in Colchester at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, immediately followed by a celebration of life reception in the church hall. Burial will be held privately for family.
In lieu of flowers due to family allergies, memorial donations can be made to McClure Miller Respite House, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446 or given online at www.uvmhomehealth.org/give, or the Colchester Rescue, 687 Blakely Road, Colchester, VT 05446.
