Obituary

Edmund Leopold Allard, 96, of Northfield, Vermont passed away on May 7th 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Edmund was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on April 1,1930 to Télesphore and Leonie (Poirier) Allard of Montréal, Quebec, Canada. When Edmund (Ed or Eddy) was six months old, the Allard family moved back to Canada where they originated from. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Reina Marie Marguerite Sénécal, also known as Lulu, of Montréal, Quebec. Soon after, the couple moved to Northfield, Vermont where they raised their nine children.

Ed was a hardworking man and provided well for his family. In the early years, Ed worked for the local railroad, the Rock of Ages Granite Company in Barre, VT, and a local insulating company. In 1954 he and his brother-in-law, Leo Brassard, started the Allard & Brassard (A&B) Construction Company. In that same year, he built his family's first home, and in the years following as the family grew, he built increasingly larger homes to accommodate them.

Ed not only ensured his family had a beautiful home, but he also built camps over the years for the family to enjoy. The family has fond memories at the camp on Peacham Pond where the children learned to swim, fish, water ski and spend entire summers with relatives, the camp on Bull Run where the family went snowmobiling, hunting, and exploring the woods, and the camp on Tracy Hill in Roxbury where the family gathered to x-country ski and spend time together.

Allard & Brassard Construction Company built many homes in Northfield, Montpelier and Barre, VT throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s. In 1977, Ed began working for Norwich University where he retired in 1989. He then built their first retirement home on Route 12A in Northfield, where he and Lulu opened and operated Allard's Gravel Pit. In 2002, the couple retired (again) from the gravel business and Ed built his final, smaller retirement home, where the couple lived out the rest of their years.

Eddy & Lulu enjoyed their retirement, hosting family reunions, vacationing with many of their adult children including several trips to Florida, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. On vacation, Eddy enjoyed spending time with his family, deep sea fishing, parasailing, going out to dinner, and reflecting on his good life. After his wife's passing, Ed continued to host weekly Friday night "happy hour" gatherings with his children and extended family, catching up and telling stories about, "The good ole' days" right up until his passing.

Eddy was well known throughout the community for his exceptional carpentry and warm spirit. Whether he was framing a house or sharing a laugh, Eddy left a lasting mark on everyone he met. Clients, coworkers, and friends alike will remember him for his joyful demeanor, his sincere heart, his honesty and fairness, as well as his bright, positive outlook on life.

Edmund was predeceased by his wife Lulu, his brother, Philip Allard, his sisters, Charlotte Raymond, Doris Allard and Pauline Brassard, his daughter-in law, Catherine (Wall) Allard, his grandchildren, Randy S. Porter, Sr. and George Johnson IV, his granddaughter, Jennifer Lowe, and great-granddaughter, Madeline Allard.

Edmund leaves behind his brother, Leo Allard, his sister, Eva Laurin, and his nine children and their spouses: George (Marilyn), Vivian Johnson (George), John (Kathy), Nancy Gross (Scott-predeceased), William (Joan), Kathy Parks (Steven), Richard (Michele), Lisa Allard (Scott), Cheryl Gibb (Skip). He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
