Edward
Izzi
Nov 1, 1949 — Aug 4, 2026
Edward "Eddie" Arthur Izzi, 76, of Williston, Vermont, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of August 4, 2026. He will be deeply missed by so many. Eddie was a good, sincere, and honest man, but above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on November 1, 1949, Eddie spent much of his life in Waltham, Wayland, and Sudbury, Massachusetts, before making his home in Williston, Vermont. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and went on to attend the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1971.
Eddie was affectionately known to many as "Pops." He was a man of deep faith, strong character, and a generous heart. His Catholic faith was extremely important to him and brought him great comfort and peace, especially during the later years of his life. He was a parishioner of St. Ann's Church in Wayland, Massachusetts, and most recently of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Williston and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Richmond, Vermont. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
One of Eddie's proudest accomplishments was owning and operating Izzi's Sub Shop in Waltham, Massachusetts, for more than 30 years. He took great pride in his work and loved sharing stories of the shop's heyday, when he would serve hundreds of subs in a single day. His strong work ethic, honesty, and commitment to the people he served defined who he was.
Eddie found joy in the simple things in life. He loved working in his yard, watching and feeding birds, and, perhaps most of all, feeding others—including many beloved pets. Taking care of people and animals brought him genuine happiness. His positive outlook and sense of humor could brighten a room, and his warm, genuine smile made everyone feel welcome.
His family and friends will remember Eddie not only for his attributes but also for the unmistakable sight of him in his leather cowboy hat. That hat became part of who he was—a familiar and beloved symbol of Eddie himself.
Eddie was looking forward to being greeted in Heaven by his identical twin brother, Steve Izzi; his parents, Attilio Izzi and Shirley Hall; his mother-in-law, Florence Thompson; his sister- and brother-in-law, Gail Landino and Steven Thompson; along with many other family members and friends who had gone before him.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 48 years, Jacqueline Izzi of Williston; his daughters, Carina McCauley and her husband, Ed, of Richmond; Dawn Izzi of Winooski; and Dianna Izzi of Massachusetts; and his four grandsons, Desmond, Brayden, Ethan, and Ashton, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Eddie's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his extensive care team who provided endless care, support, and comfort to both him and his family. Their compassion and dedication meant more than words can express. We would also like to acknowledge a very special person, Shelagh McCauley, who selflessly donated a kidney to Eddie. This gift gave us an extra 14 years with him.
A Catholic funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Williston VT. There will be a celebration of life in Massachusetts at a later date.
Though he is deeply missed, Eddie's family finds comfort knowing that he has gone home to his Heavenly Father. His love, laughter and that unmistakable leather hat will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
