Elaine Kathy (King) Smardon 1945-2025

With heavy hearts, we announce Kathy Smardon's unexpected passing on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Burlington, Vermont.

Kathy was born in Laurel, Delaware, on December 13, 1945, to Arthur Thomas King and Ruth Irma Benton. She attended Laurel High School in Delaware from 1959 to 1963 and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1967. On December 21, 1968, she married her beloved husband, Jefferey G. Smardon. Jeff and Kathy moved to Vermont in 1969 and have lived at their Jericho home since 1973.

Kathy worked at Lewes Elementary School in Delaware, Harrington's of Vermont, and City Drugs throughout her career. She also served 23 years as a certified assistant town clerk in the town clerk's office in Williston, Vermont, and was a member of the Vermont Municipal Clerks & Treasurer's Association.

Kathy was a loving mother to Clint and Jeremy (Lisa) Smardon and a cherished grandmother to Allison, Matthew, and Emily.

She will be greatly missed by her sister, Connie Mears (Art), her brother, Tom King (Julie) and her many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return.

Throughout her life she has been deeply devoted to the family and United Methodist Church.

Kathy wanted to be an organ donor, and she donated her liver, successfully saving another person's life through Donate Life.

The Smardon family wishes to sincerely thank the UVM Medical Center medical ICU nurses and staff, the Jericho United Methodist church congregation, friends and family members who supported them during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 4 to 6 PM at Corbin and Palmer in Essex Jct, Vermont. A funeral and celebration of life service will take place at the Jericho United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with burial following at Pleasant View Cemetery in Jericho, VT.
