Obituary

Colchester, VT

Elizabeth M. Blondin, fondly known as Betty, gracefully departed this world on March 21, 2024, at the age of 102, surrounded by her loving family at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester.

Betty was born on January 19, 1922, in Bedford, Quebec, Canada, to Edward and Harriet Rolland as the seventh of nine children and was the last surviving member of her siblings. On May 25, 1942, she married Foster H. Blondin from Milton, Vermont, who predeceased her in 2003. Betty embraced her new home and became a naturalized U.S. citizen on February 9, 1954.

In her earlier years of marriage, Betty dedicated herself to nurturing her daughter, Beverly. Betty was a meticulous person who always took pride in everything she did, from her well-decorated homes to always being dressed in the latest fashion. This stood true even in her later years when she was living in assisted-living facilities. Her impeccable sense of style and attention to detail illuminated every aspect of her life, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her passion for high fashion led her to pursue a career at the esteemed Magram's department store on Church Street in downtown Burlington after Beverly left home. Later, she found joy working at the Daffodil Boutique in Essex Junction where she resided.

Betty's zest for life was evident in her diverse range of hobbies and interests from dancing to decorating, bowling to snowmobiling, and cheering for the Boston Celtics. She cherished moments spent camping, indulging in chocolate (lots of chocolate!), and relishing family gatherings at her beloved lakeside camp at Sunset Cove in Grand Isle.

Betty exhibited strength and determination throughout her life, maintaining independence in assisted living facilities until her final week. She always enjoyed visits from her family and the many chocolates they brought. Among Betty's most cherished moments were her standing weekly Friday night Parcheesi games with her grandson, David, and his wife, Nadine, a tradition she held dear.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories and is survived by her daughter, Beverly Thibault & partner Donald Langlois; grandchildren David Thibault & wife Nadine Thibault, Lisa Stever & husband David Stever, Sharon Benson & husband Craig Benson; great-grandchildren Elizabeth LaCross, Ryan Thibault & fiancé Julia McCarthy, Olivia Grant & husband Nathan Grant, Athena & Natalia Stever, Isabella & Emily Benson; and great-great-grandchildren Foster & Eva LaCross.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the McClure Miller Respite House for their exceptional care during Betty's final journey home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the McClure Miller Respite House would be appreciated.

Funeral services will be postponed until June, allowing time for friends and family to come together and celebrate Betty's remarkable life. Arrangements are in care of LaVigne Funeral & Cremation Service, Winooski.
