Ellen Margaret May

January 24th, 1925 – June 3rd, 2025

Ellen M. May, 100, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, in Barre. Born January 24, 1925, in Canton, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Emmy (Norman) Christensen. She married George E. May Sr. on March 31, 1944, in Sharon, Mass. George predeceased Ellen on March 27, 1992, after 48 years of marriage.

Ellen grew up in Sharon, Mass, and graduated from Sharon High School in 1941. She attended Burdett Business College in Boston for one year. She met and married George. She supported the war effort during World War II, working for the Smaller War Plants Corporation in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts.

After the war, she and George moved back to Sharon, she was busy and happy raising her family. She was a member of the Sharon Congregational Church, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Dorcas Society. She worked at the Cobb Corner Pharmacy in Canton, Massachusetts, for ten years. In 1968, the family moved to Vermont. She worked at Harrington's in Richmond for several years and later retired from her job at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.

Ellen lived and loved her family, her daughters, Cheryl Rendel of Wareham, Mass. Nancy Berry and her husband Steve of Wolcott; her son George "Skip" May Jr. of Barre; her son-in-law Michael LaVigne of Berlin; her Niece Jeanette Austin; Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, as well as extended family. She is predeceased by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Relation and her husband Wesley, Brenda Kelly and her husband Richard (Dj), her daughter Susan LaVigne and son-in-law Virgil Rendel; a great-grandson, Trevor Haskins.
