Fred Edwin Drown, aged 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Central Vermont Hospital.
He was born on July 18, 1950, to Keith and Bernice Drown. Fred graduated from Northfield High School in 1969, and later served in the United States Navy as a
Submariner until 1974. He married Jane Colgan in Northfield on June 16, 1973.
Following his military service, he spent most of his career truck driving, farming, and catering. Fred was a member of the Northfield Snowmobile Association, where he participated in organizing and participating in racing snowmobile events at the former Northfield fairgrounds. Fred had a passion for hunting and fishing, particularly enjoying deep-sea fishing out of Seabrook, NH. He relished long car rides, mowing the lawn, and hosting his "Redneck Barbeques." He was also a member of the VFW in Montpelier and the U.S. Submarine Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Drown, of Northfield, and three daughters: Dawn and
David Delfino of Monterey, CA, Crystal Drown and Todd Mansfield of Northfield, and
Tanya Drown of Montpelier. His four grandchildren include Ella Delfino, Hunter Drown of Mansfield, Landin Drown, and Sydney Gilbert. He is also survived by three siblings: Roger Drown of Maysville, NC, Frank Drown of Northfield, and Ashton Drown of
Graniteville, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Keith and Bernice Drown, his brother Reginald Drown, his sister Nellie Drown, and his beloved Siberian husky, Rusty.
In accordance with Fred's wishes, a military service will be conducted in early
September at the Veterans Cemetery, in the Memorial Garden in Randolph Center, Vermont
