Gaile A.
Jenkins
Dec 8, 1941 — Feb 12, 2025
Gaile Ann Jenkins, 83, of Jericho, VT passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She was born in Burlington, VT on December 8, 1941 to Gerald Wendall and Viola Grace (Comstock) Newton. Gaile graduated from Burlington High School in 1959 and went on to further her education at Burlington College with a BA degree in Psychology in 1986, while raising her four children.
On December 23, 1963, she married Jamie Joseph Jenkins at the First United Methodist Church in Burlington. Gaile dedicated many years to serving her community through her work in financial aid assistance at Burlington College, a counselor at Champlain Drug & Alcohol, administrative assistance with Eaton Corporation and housing inspection assistance at Burlington Housing Authority, where she retired from. She was a friend of Lois W and served as Vermont's Al-Anon delegate for several years. The amount of people's lives she touched through her work in Al-Anon is innumerable. Aside from her Al-Anon family and friends, her passions were all things equine (especially trail riding with her Paso Fino horse, Roberto), rodeo's, horse racing, horse shows (she particularly enjoyed watching gymkhana events) and of course her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the light of her life. She spent many years volunteering as a foster grandparent to children in the Jericho/Underhill area at Underhill ID and Jericho Elementary Schools. She loved crossword puzzles, reading and volunteered at several local libraries. On many days out of the week, you could find her at Jericho Café, visiting with friends, including the staff. She also enjoyed spending time at the water, whether it was North Beach, Sand Bar State Park or the ocean in Maine and attending Native American pow-wows.
She is survived by her four children: Scott Jenkins of Plattsburgh, NY, Melissa Jenkins of Sugar Hill, NH, Jennifer Miles and her husband James of Fairfax, VT and Brian Jenkins and his wife Marlowe of Jericho, VT; her grandchildren: Ashley Lizotte, Michael Jenkins, Leah Garcia, Liza Shinosky, Steven Jenkins, Jeremy Miles, Brianna Jenkins and Carly Jenkins; six great-children and a brother, Barry Newton; several cousins, nieces and nephews and very special friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters Marlene Heeter and Doreen Billings, a nephew Michael Trombley, and her very special friend Helen G.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16th at 1:00 pm at LaVigne Funeral & Cremation Service, 132 Main St., Winooski, VT.
