Gary C. Alarie, 71, of Essex died Monday, February 2, 2026 after a tumultuous battle with lung cancer and complications that arose from treatment.

He was born July 10, 1954 in Winooski, Vermont to parents Clement "Chick" and Eleanor Alarie. Gary grew up with eight siblings and a strong sense of family values. He was a high school state wrestling champion, a coach, an EMT, and an electrician by trade. He consistently donated whole blood and platelets through the American Red Cross, and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need.

Gary is predeceased by both parents and his sister Aline. He is survived by his siblings Dianne, William, James, John, Kenneth, Karen, and Katherine. He will be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews for his mischievousness and unyielding support.

Gary's sense of humor, fondness for puns and proclivity for intentional mispronunciation live on in his children Seth Alarie and Leah Cross.

Details for a graveside memorial service for family and close friends will be shared at a later date.
