Obituary

Gerald (Gerry) R. Myers, 83, of Winooski, Vermont, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Birchwood Terrace Rehab and Healthcare. Gerry suffered from Lewy Body Dementia for the last few years.

Gerry was born to Raymond and Irene Myers in Winooski, VT, where he grew up with four brothers and two sisters. Gerry's earliest and fondest memories were living on East Center St. and playing outside until dark with all the kids in the neighborhood. Gerry loved talking about working in the Pool Room with his brother, Ray, which his dad owned for a time; Gerry became an excellent pool player. He also talked of working at Bill's Diner. In 1961 at Bill's Diner, Gerry met the love of his life, Leola, whom he married in 1962. Leola (Lea) passed in 2020.

Gerry's first job as a married man and father was at the Burlington Free Press. Later, he worked at General Electric. Gerry also served in the Vermont National Guard for nine years. In 1975 Gerry and Lea moved their family of four children to Charlestown, NH, where their youngest son Matthew was born. His last job before retirement in 1998 was with USPS. In 2002, Gerry and Lea relocated to Charlotte, NC. Gerry loved all sports and could now play golf any time of the year. Gerry was an avid golfer known for consistently hitting the ball straight down the fairway. Gerry grew to like the Charlotte Panthers, but no team ever replaced his NY Giants. Both Gerry and Lea made many friends wherever they lived, mostly through church; they had to say goodbye to many in North Carolina when they moved back to VT in 2015. Gerry's favorite activities also included playing card games and watching all sports (especially when the Red Sox were winning) on TV.

Gerry was also very involved and gave much time to The Knights of Columbus. Tootsie Roll Drives, Basketball Clinics, and meetings were prominent in his life. Gerry was elevated to Grand Knight in Charlestown, NH.

Gerry leaves behind his five children: Denise and husband, Joe Joslin; Dawna and husband, Mark Messier; Julie and husband, Arthur Labbay; Scott Myers; and Matthew and wife, Stacy Myers. Gerry is also survived by his sister Jeannette Beaulieu-Audette, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Kriss Myers, sister and brother-in-law Ann and Gregg Domingue, and his sister-in-law Monika Carver and her husband Bill. Gerry loved all his grandchildren: Ashley and Mike, Luke, Aimee and Antonio, Kaitlyn and Adam, Drew, Andrew, Nicholas, Tyler and Lauren, Nathan, and Olivia. He loved his great-grandchildren: Renleigh, Nolan, Boston, and Ellie. Gerry was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Leola; his parents; his brothers George Myers, James Myers, and Raymond Myers; his brothers-in-law James Beaulieu and Ed Audette; and his grandson, Owen Myers. Gerry also was very close to many family members on Lea's side of the family, living and deceased.

The family is very grateful for the care given to Gerry by the Nurses and LNAs at Mansfield Place Memory Care. So many wonderful people there helped him on a daily basis. He also received fabulous care the last two months he spent at Birchwood Terrace in Burlington. Many thanks to all the people who work so hard there.

Bayada Hospice worked closely with Gerry and his family. We would like to thank Gloria, Jackie, Evelina, Justin, and Jennifer as just a few who made our dad's life so much easier near the end.
