Harold L.
Ashton
Nov 28, 1946 — May 20, 2024
Ashton, Harold L. "Jimmy" passed away May 20, 2024, at the University of Vermont Medical Center after failing health. He was born November 28, 1946, to Theresa (Begin) and Harold O. Ashton in Hardwick, Vt.
Jimmy grew up in Barre, Vt and attended St. Monica's grade school where he was an altar boy for many years and graduated from Marian High School. While attending Marian he also took electronics courses at Spaulding High School in his junior and senior year. In sixth grade he met Kay Inglis, the love of his life, who he married in 1965 and they were married for 59 years. During that time, they had two beautiful daughters. In 1976 he enlisted and was honorably discharged from the Vermont Air Guard. When he returned home, he obtained an associate degree from Cleveland Institute of Electronics.
As a young man, Jimmy worked at Endicott Johnsons as a shoe salesman in Barre, VT. This enabled him to always find the "best fit shoes" for his little girls. After high school he spent time working at various jobs and landed a job as a lab tech specialist at IBM in Essex Jct., Vt. for 20 years where he learned to carry a coffee mug with confidence. After retiring he spent winters in Ocala, Florida to escape the cold Vermont winters and summers at Apple Island Resort in South Hero, Vt. golfing with his friends.
Jimmy had a funny sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. He liked hunting, being outside, tinkering around the house (to please his wife), and spending time with his friends and beloved family (especially game nights, which would get rather loud!!).
Jimmy didn't have sons but nothing made him happier than hanging out with Reg, Ed and Richard sharing stories and making his special "Poppi" drinks. He will truly be missed!
Jimmy leaves behind his wife Kay, his daughter Tina Wallis, her husband Richard Wallis and their children Jacob Wallis and wife Marion (Carr) and soon to be great grandson, Joshua Wallis and his partner Julius Shan and daughter Mikayla Wallis and her partner Hayden LeFevre. He also leaves his daughter Sherry Thibault and her husband Reg Thibault, their son Ethan Thibault and his partner Kyle Stansberry and daughter Hailey Thibault. He also leaves behind many treasured family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Grace Church, Colchester. There will be no visiting hours or burial.
