Obituary

Helen J. Marquardt

3/31/1955 – 5/6/2026

Helen Marquardt, 71, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vermont. Born and raised in Ansonia, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Marquardt.

Helen moved to the Mad River Valley in 1980 with her daughter, Cristal Brown. She worked at various locations in the valley, but most enjoyed her long tenure at the Golden Lion Inn, Waitsfield Children's Center, and Mehuron's Market.

Helen had her fair share of struggles, but fought breast cancer with her heart and soul. She had a big heart, she was generous, kind, and a spunky soul. As Helen would say, "I'm doing it MY way."

In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed many activities. She loved entertaining and spending time with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Bella, watching her grow and flourish, most recently watching her incredible skill on the ice, playing hockey. Helen loved gardening, good food (including LOTS of sweets!), cooking, puzzle books of all kinds, reading Danielle Steele novels, watching sports, home-buying shows, and soap operas. She was an avid classic car fan and loved attending classic car shows with her late husband, Roger Lanphear.

She will be dearly missed by her close friends.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Cristal Olson, and son-in-law Doug Olson and daughters, Xandria, Lexi, and Lyla of Oregon, WI, granddaughter Bella, her beloved dog Bear, and many close friends. Helen is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Virginia Marquardt, her godson Adam Snow, and the love of her life, her late husband Roger Lanphear.

A graveside service will be scheduled for later date at the Warren Village Cemetery.
