Obituary

JoAnn Beth Hammond, born on May 30, 1964, in Burlington, Vermont, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the evening of August 26, 2024. A resident of Essex Junction, Vermont, JoAnn was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant of God, who dedicated her life to caring for others and living out her faith.

She is joyfully reunited in Heaven with her parents, Lilla and Frank (Buster) Hammond, and her sister, Kathy Hammond and her (favorite) brother-in-law Jim Roche. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her siblings, Mary Hammond Roche, James Hammond and his wife Gabrielle, Stephen Hammond and his wife Andrea, William Hammond and his wife Donna, Jerry Hammond and his wife Chris, Dennis Hammond and his wife Claire, Larry Hammond and his wife Lise, and Lori Hammond Danaher and her husband Matthew, along with her 20 cherished nieces and nephews.

JoAnn's life was a beacon of compassion, generosity, and faith. As a dedicated nurse for 33 years at the UVM Medical Center, she was known for her unwavering commitment to her patients and colleagues. Always the first to offer help and comfort, JoAnn embodied the spirit of Christ-like love, touching countless lives through her kindness and care.

In addition to her nursing career, JoAnn also served her country with distinction as a Security Specialist and was part of the pistol team in the Vermont Air National Guard, where she received the Marksman Award for her exceptional skills. Her dedication to service extended beyond the hospital, demonstrating her commitment to protecting and supporting her community and nation. Her infectious smile and joyful presence could light up any room, and she was always ready to share a warm laugh or a comforting word.

A devoted member of Essex Alliance Church, JoAnn's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active participant in her church community, sharing her love of God through service, fellowship, and prayer. Her gentle spirit and loving heart left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

JoAnn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her light and love will continue to shine in our hearts, reminding us to live each day with the same grace, compassion, and faith that she did.

Services to honor JoAnn's life will be held at Essex Alliance Church, 37 Old Stage Rd. Essex on Monday, September 16, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in JoAnn's memory to the Essex Alliance Church or a charity of your choice that supports those in need.

May JoAnn rest in God's eternal peace, forever embraced by His love.
