John M.
Mascitti
Mar 1, 1953 — Aug 3, 2025
JOHN MARIO MASCITTI (1953–2025)
John Mario Mascitti, 72, of Plainfield, Vermont passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, with his family gathered around him. Born on March 1, 1953, in Barre, he was the cherished son of the late Paul Ideale Mascitti and Blanche Flora (Phillips) Mascitti.
John lived most of his life in East Montpelier and attended St. Monica's Elementary and Marion High School in Barre. Over his career, John earned his livelihood as a professional truck driver and heavy equipment operator, serving several companies including Brassard Contracting, DuBois Construction, Bellavance Trucking and Newton Construction. He was known for his mastery of the trade, reliability, dedication, and camaraderie among colleagues.
In 1998, John met Robin Dion (née Amsden), and they quickly fell in love. They were married on October 5, 2003. Together, they shared a deep love for motorcycling, often taking rides all over New England, and treasured their joyful trips to North Carolina to visit family. They wholeheartedly supported each other's passions: John waited patiently time after time while Robin browsed in second-hand or quilt shops, and Robin was faithfully at John's side assisting at countless events at the Canadian Club.
His passion for motorsports found him in the 1970s racing snowmobiles, motocross and ministocks across New York and New England - among his racing peers, he was admired for being as fierce as he was fair when the green flag waved. His love for racing inspired his nephews and, especially, his grandson Chase to have similar interests. Later in life John did whatever it took to support Chase's pursuit of a career in motorsports journalism.
When not working or at home, you could bet on John being at the Canadian Club. He was a cornerstone of the Club community, serving in the roles of President, Vice-President, Director, and dedicated member for more than 45 years. He worked tirelessly to keep the Club running smoothly, often rolling up his sleeves to work on projects with others. John was also a member of the VFW Post #790, and the Mutuo Club.
John's charisma was undeniable. He could walk into any room and become its center simply by being himself - genuine, funny, and larger than life. His quick wit and sarcastic humor could light up any room for hours and he reveled in telling stories, even participating in storytelling competitions. And when the music started, he rarely missed an opportunity to hit the dance floor, impressing partners and onlookers with his natural ability.
Nothing gave John greater joy than time spent with his family. His happiest moments were those surrounded by the people he loved most, and everyone who knew him carries fond memories of his selfless care and kindness—whether he was teaching someone a new skill, sharing his life's experiences, or lending a helping hand. He had a special relationship with his children, and each of his family members, teaching them the things he loved to do.
He is survived by his cherished wife Robin (Amsden) Mascitti, his sister, Pauline Lee and five children: Christina Steele and her husband, Nick; Jade Clark and her husband, Lee; Seth Dion and his wife, Brittany; Josh Dion and his wife, Sara; Courtney LaPerle and her husband, Luke.
He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren: Chase, Blake, CJ, Kilbie, Emily, Kaleb, Liam, Drew, Jalen and Riley.
He will also be greatly missed by a special aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends who will carry forward his memory.
John was predeceased by his brother Paul A. Mascitti and a grandson, Cayden Dion.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Sunday October 5th from 1-5pm at The Canadian Club, 414 East Montpelier Road in Barre. The family welcomes and encourages anyone who knew John to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John's name to the Parkinson's Foundation (parkinson.org).
