Obituary

It is with incredible sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of John Louis Schnabel, who passed away on July 16, 2026, at the age of 41.

John was born on June 3, 1985, at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey. Named after his father, he was affectionately known as "John John," who was a complete replica of his dad.

John grew up in New Jersey and attended New Milford High School. From a young age, he developed a passion for cars—especially fast cars and beautifully built ones. He also found a knack for working on boats and enjoyed being on the water. His talent for automotive work was passed down through generations, learning from his grandfather, father, uncles, and the many family members who shared that passion. Working on cars wasn't just something John enjoyed; he loved his racecars and RC cars, and he loved building and painting models to enjoy; it was a part of who he was.

John lived in many locations, but in the last years of his life, he decided to move to Vermont for a fresh start and to build a life he could be proud of. There, he worked for many years alongside his Uncle Keith at Master Tech Automotive, where he was a great mechanical technician. John was growing and doing well with the help and guidance of The 4X4 Center in So. Burlington. Vermont became a second home, where he was surrounded by family, friends, and coworkers who loved him deeply and supported him every step of the way.

Beyond his love of cars, John will be remembered for his generous heart, his loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He cared fiercely about the people in his life and always wanted to do right by those he loved. He faced many difficult battles throughout his life, but he never stopped trying to do better and create a future he could be proud of. His kindness, willingness to help others, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

John is survived by his mother, Josephine Sangastiano; his brothers, David Schnabel and Nicholas Schnabel; his uncles, Keith Schnabel and Judes Schnabel; his cousins, Jordan and Xen, Jerrett, Amber, Samantha, and Emily; along with many other beloved family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was predeceased by his father, "Big" John Schnabel; his grandfather, Edward Schnabel, and his grandmother, Millie; his uncle, Paul Schnabel; on his mother's side, his grandfather, Louis, and grandmother, Paula Sangastiano; and his beloved best friend and most loyal dog, Hank.

We choose to remember John not for how his journey ended, but for the beautiful soul he was, the memories we shared, and the light he brought into our lives. He will be remembered as the sweet boy he was, the hardworking man he became, and someone who loved deeply and gave freely to those around him without judgment. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone whose lives he touched.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

Rest in Peace and fly free.
