Obituary

Joseph C Dufresne Sr., of Williston, passed away at the age 85 on October 5, 2026.

Joseph (Joe) was born August 6, 1941, in Burlington VT to Clarence and Rosealma (Blair) Dufresne.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the Navy he served on a destroyer on the Atlantic Ocean, He returned to Vermont after serving his tour of duty and did Navel Reserve in Burlington.


He married Diana M Bruce on July 3,1965 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

They built their home in Williston to raise their children.


He worked at King Roofing before going to work at IBM. He retired from IBM in the late 90’s.

He did part time work for Green Mountain Messenger after retiring from IBM.


His hobbies included stamps and coin collecting, but trains was his greatest hobby. He collected model trains and train books. If he was at a railroad crossing, he would wait for the train to come to take pictures.

He belonged to the Champlain Valley Chapter of NRHS, Central Vermont RR Historical Rutland RR D & H Historical Society and NRHS Nation Railway Historical Society.


Joe was a wonderful husband,dad,grandpa,brother and friend, he will truly be missed by all. He had a lot of knowledge that he shared with all of us. He was a kind and caring person who was willing to help you in anyway that he could.


He was predeceased by his wife Diana on May 27, 2026 , his parents, brother Thomas and Stephen.

Joseph is survived by his children Joseph C Dufresne Jr. , daughter Susan Cusson and her husband

Daryl Cusson, his sister Mary Anne Terhune, sister in laws Lydia Blackburn, Shirley King, Kathie Bruce, Noreen Rivers(husband David) Sharon Bruce, Teela Dufresne (Tom) Judy Dufresne (Steve) Brother in law Michael Bruce

Grandchildren - Travis Dufresne, Eleni Cusson, Jasper Dufresne and great granddaughter Chloe Valyeau. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.


Visiting hours and funeral services will held at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St. Essex Junction, VT on October 14, 2026 10am - 12pm visiting and service hours.

Burial will follow at East Cemetery in Williston .
