Obituary

The world lost one of its brightest lights as Josie LaMountain passed on Friday March 22. Her family surrounded her on her final day with the love she needed to escape her illness.

Born in Hauzenberg, Germany on October 15th 1946 to Donald and Josefine (Degler) McGettrick, Josie gave her love and support, loyalty and grace to every person who was lucky enough to build a relationship with her. She was strong willed and very direct- you always knew where she stood on any issue. She had a great sense of humor, and her intelligence and wit made it evident that this was a very unique individual.

She never lost touch with those special friends from her graduating class of 1964 at Essex High School. Love also kept her close to many of her classmates from Jeanne Mance School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1968. Many nurses, doctors, admin staff and even some patients were a part of her life through her over 40 years of nursing at UVMMC, and beyond.

Family was most important to Josie, with a special bond between her younger brothers and sisters, as well as unique love for her mother and father. Her nephew, four nieces and their families were as special to her as if they were her own children.

Although her marriage to David LaMountain wasn't forever, that time of love created their daughter Jessica. The greatest friendship and unbreakable bond was made, and Josie gave her heart and soul to her daughter. She continued to always care for the entire LaMountain family.

After retirement, Josie's favorite pastimes included weekly poker games with her siblings, bingo with her friends, and boardgames with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson.

She is predeceased by her parents and beloved brother Patrick McGettrick. Her dear brothers in law Kurk Perkins and Bill Henry also left too soon.

Josie is survived by her daughter Jessica, son in law (favorite chef and son in her heart) Sean Seals, special grandson Shane Seals and his fiancee Caitlin Allen.

Josie is also survived by her brother and sister in law Mike and Linda McGettrick, and sisters Kathleen Perkins and Donna Henry, as well as half brother Timothy McGettrick. Her one nephew Mark and wife Jessica McGettrick, four nieces Angela and husband Dan Patnoad, Amy McGettrick, Samantha and husband Jon Frimodig, and Allison Bean, including Josie's bonus daughter Emily Cadieux, will always feel her love. She had a special place in her heart for her two grandnephews Max and Carter, as well as grandnieces Ava, Maddison, Olive and Hannah. The whole of the Seals family were close to her heart.

Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Essex, Vermont on May 10th, 2024 at 1pm. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to donate in her name, please consider March of Dimes and St Jude's, to carry on her strong sense of caregiving.
