Karl R. Gabbeitt, 98 died Saturday December 23, 2023 in Burlington.

He was born in Burlington, VT on July 2, 1925 the son of Joseph and Minnie (Rivers) Gabbeitt. The seventh of eight children, he was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings Bill, John, George, Tom, Howard, Beulah, and Millicent; and by his wife of 53 years Elaine (Carpenter) Gabbeitt. Karl is survived by his son Lee Gabbeitt and wife Valerie of So. Burlington and their family, Lance Cross and wife Kim Anh of Colchester and Cornell and Sarah Cross and their daughter Winter of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Steve and Mary, Tom and Susan, David and Marie, John and Teri, Ernie and Martha, Rose, and their families.

Karl was a devout catholic who graduated from BHS in 1943. He entered World War II with the US Army and was a member of the 13th Airborne Division 676th Glider Infantry. He later worked at Fort Ethan Allen until the base closed. He then worked construction before going to General Electric for the next 24 years.

Karl loved to be outdoors and with his family. He was a fisherman and avid hunter. He loved to watch and listen to the birds. Karl enjoyed hunting with his three best friends Jake, John, and Richard, along with other family members. His senior years were spent as a member of the Northfield Beagle Club with his son, running rabbits with their beagles, of which he greatly enjoyed.

A funeral service and burial will be held in May, 2024. Arrangements are in care of the LaVigne Funeral & Cremation Service, Winooski.
