Katherine Jane
Morrissey
Dec 21, 1933 — Feb 14, 2024
Katherine Jane (McSweeney) Morrissey died after a brief illness on February 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Kitty, as she was fondly known, was born in Burlington, VT on December 21, 1933, the sixth of ten children born to E. Douglas and Ruth (Casey) McSweeney. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family, and was proud to have reached that milestone.
Kitty spent her early years in Burlington attending Mount Saint Mary's, and graduated from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. In 1957, she married the love of her life, John (Jack) Vincent Morrissey in Burlington. They resided there until they moved to Sugar House Hill in Stowe in 1965. Jack and Kitty's Catholic faith was the foundation on which they raised their family. As a long standing member of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Kitty served as a lector and a Eucharistic Minister. She was very proud to have attended the first Right to Life March in Washington, DC. in 1974.
She found her true calling as a Realtor, making lasting friendships, mentoring many along the way. She retired after a successful career and was able to enjoy traveling, most enjoyably to Sunset Beach, NC.
Kitty had many interests including quilting, cooking, tennis, skiing and golf. She enjoyed traveling and had wonderful memories of her trip to Ireland with Jack in 2001. Kitty loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was so happy to be blessed with great-grandchildren.
Kitty was predeceased by her husband of 63 years John Vincent Morrissey, Sr.; siblings E. Douglas McSweeney, Jr., Marie McKenna, Mgsr. John R. McSweeney, Margaret Barry, Dr. William J. McSweeney, Louise Scibelli, Elizabeth Gretkowski; and grandson Tyler Morrissey. She is survived by her children Margaret of Waterbury, VT; John (Melinda Spinks) of Nashville, TN; Tim (Louise Couture) of Morrisville, VT; Chris (Mary LeCours) of Jericho, VT; Beth (Bart Bradford) of Waterbury, VT; Brian (Monica Palmer) of East Hardwick, VT; Kim (Matthew Weber) of Oberrieden, Switzerland; and her siblings Ruth Ann Pichler of Burlington, VT, and Martha Economou (Dean) of Stowe, VT; also her sisters in-law Marilyn McSweeney and Anne Fletcher; brothers in-law Ned Barry and Hank Gretkowski. She is also survived by her grandchildren Micah, Kate, Will, Heather, Charlie, Riley, Ally, Natalie, Shamus, Patrick, Madeleine, Spencer, and step-granddaughter Nicole; and her great-grandchildren Emmett, Margot, Reese, Henry, Lincoln and Jackson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 1:00pm. Burial at Riverbank Cemetery will be in the spring. Perkins-Parker Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Lamoille Community Food Share, Stowe Community Fund, or a local charity of your choice.
