Obituary

On Saturday, 29 August 2026, Kathleen Fox, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia. Her passing was neither unexpected nor cruel; rather, it is a comfort to know she can now finally rest.

Born in Columbus, NE, Kathy grew up in Hurley, NY and attended local schools until attending high school at Rogers Hall in Lowell, MA.

Upon graduation she attended nursing school in Syracuse NY. Kathy pursued a career in nursing with a focus on infant care, working in Catholic orphanages in Washington DC until accepting a position at Kingston Hospital and in Kingston, NY. From there she went too Albany, NY until her marriage.

In 1974 Kathy married George Fox and left New York for Vermont. They lived in Burlington, VT for over a year before making their home in Charlotte, VT where she lived for over fifty years.

In addition to caring for her family, Kathy worked as a day care provider at the Charlotte Children's Center throughout the 1980s and later worked as a house cleaner and in various roles at the Vermont Teddy Bear Company for many years.

Kathy was much more than the sum of dates of employment and places lived, though:

Kathy loved music and the arts, having sung in church and school choirs throughout her youth and having enjoyed multiple Broadway shows with her parents as a teenager. She listened to her favorite musical soundtracks, folk singers, and Irish musicians at every opportunity, and introduced her favorite groups to her family on vinyl, on CD, and even in concert.

Kathy was a largely self-taught baker and candy maker, keeping the family's sweet tooth sated with cookies, cakes, candied nuts, and chocolates. Her Poison Cherry Brownies were both a family tradition and a dorm favorite while her son was at Rutgers.

Kathy loved knitting and loathed sewing; she would eagerly knit hats and sweaters but would delay even the smallest sewing project until you eventually just did it yourself.

Kathy embraced Christmas fully, decorating the home immediately at the conclusion of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and always tasking George with finding a tree with pinecones in its branches. Her ornament collection was vast and varied, and she treated decorating the Christmas tree as an art form.

Kathy gave her time freely in support of the Women's Fellowship at the Charlotte Congregational Church, the then-Champlain Association of Retarded Citizens, Vermont Special Olympics, and any endeavor in which her family was involved.

Kathy's final years took much of this away from her as she battled dementia, but she nevertheless stayed true to her character: She had fought through an undiagnosed learning disability to become a nurse, she had fought the school district to fully accept her daughter as a "mainstreamed" special needs student, and she had fought on behalf of her son countless times when he may or may not have pushed the boundaries of the rules and regulations of the school system.

At the time of her death Kathy left behind her husband, George Fox; her children Richard (Erica Webster) and Carrie; her grandchildren Josephine and Elle; her sister Amy Kafantaris (Michael); and an extended network of family and friends across the country.

All Kathy's friend's are welcome to attend.
