Kenneth Charles
Boucher
Jun 4, 1950 — Sep 9, 2024
Kenneth Charles Boucher (Ken), a resident of Essex Junction, VT and former resident of Lowell, MA, Londonderry, NH and Valrico, FL died on September 9, 2024, at the UVM Medical Center surrounded by his wife and two daughters.
Ken was born in Lowell, MA on June 4, 1950, and was the only son of the late Henry Charles and Gloria Theresa Boucher (Matte). Ken graduated from Keith Academy (Catholic High School) in 1968. Ken served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. William R. Rush during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in the Mediterranean from 1969-1971. He loved sharing wild stories about his time onboard the destroyer and the time he saw Pope Paul VI during Easter Sunday services. After the Navy, Ken started his career in vending food service. He attended night school while working and graduated from the University of Lowell in 1983. After receiving his degree, Ken went on to build a rewarding and successful career in coffee and food sales before retiring in 2017.
Ken was a gifted, self-taught sailor. The Boucher family spent their summers sailing in the New Hampshire Lakes Region. After a work relocation to Florida, Ken and Jan spent over a decade sailing Tampa Bay with the Tampa Sailing Squadron. Ken served on the Board of the Squadron and was Commodore for several years. Ken was also a talented model airplane builder. He stayed sane during the long NH winters by building many model planes. In the Spring, he would fly (and often crash) his planes with his best friend, Roger. Too many times to count the canoe accompanied the duo to the airfield for water rescues.
Ken is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Janet Boucher (Aubin) of South Burlington, VT. Ken and Jan celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary on June 16, 2024. Ken and Jan started their married life in Pelham, NH before settling in Londonderry, NH to raise their family. During retirement, Ken and Jan fulfilled a life-long dream of owning a motor home and traveled the eastern seaboard visiting family, connecting with friends and exploring new places. After spending 18 years in Valrico, FL, Ken and Jan moved to Vermont in 2021 to be closer to family.
Ken is survived by his beloved children and grandchildren. Daughter Jennifer Boucher Meyer and husband Timothy Meyer (Cole & Henry) of South Burlington, VT. Daughter Alyson Romot (Boucher) and husband John Romot (Gloria & Emma) of Columbus, OH. Ken was known as Papa to Cole, Henry, Gloria and Emma and had a significant impact on his grandchildren's lives from birth.
Ken has a large extended family of close friends, cousins, nephews and nieces. He will be fondly remembered as the fun Uncle Ken who was the life of every party.
Ken spent the last few years of his life at the Maple Ridge Lodge in Essex Junction, VT. Ken made everyone smile and shared his love of coffee with multiple presentations to the residents along with taste testing. Ken's family is immensely grateful for the staff at Maple Ridge Lodge who provided excellent care for Ken in the last two years of his life.
A church service will be held on Monday, September 16th at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's memory to causes that were important to him. Ken was deeply concerned about the impact of climate change on future generations and access to sailing for children of all ages. Please consider making donations to the Nature Conservancy (nature.org) or the Community Sailing Center in Burlington, VT (communitysailingcenter.org).
