Kevin P.
Lavalley
Nov 8, 1955 — May 24, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Kevin Lavalley on May 24, 2026.
He was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 8, 1955 to Robert and Pauline Lavalley. Kevin grew up surrounded by family, friends, and precious memories. Those early years shaped the humor, generosity, and steadiness he carried throughout his life.
Following a career as a police officer with the Shelburne police department, Kevin began his career in telecommunications with New England Telephone in 1979. Following a 12-year career, Kevin retired from the phone company in 1991 to join his father, Robert Lavalley, at Pioneer Telephone. Over the years with Pioneer Telephone, Kevin has worked with hundreds of businesses throughout Vermont and Northern New York. Kevin worked as the owner and operator of Pioneer Telephone until his passing in 2026.
Kevin built a life centered on service, hard work, and deep love for his family. He was always tinkering away at a project, getting the boat ready for summertime fun, and laughing with friends and family around the grill or dinner table.
Some of Kevin's greatest joys were in his hobbies, whether it was towing the kids and grandkids around on the tube, waterskiing, or just setting out for a sunset cruise on Lake Champlain with Carol. Kevin also loved to ski in the winters and teaching his children to ski. In his later years, Kevin found a new great joy in the sport of pickleball. Playing outdoors in the summertime, indoors in the winter and eventually taking his skills down to Florida when escaping the cold Vermont winters. Kevin even went as far as to paint pickleball lines into the driveway at their home in Georgia, Vermont, so that he could play with family regularly.
He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Carol Lavalley, his children, Jacob Lavalley, Rebecca Stech, Bethany Williams (Jeremy), Keith Lavalley, and Jennifer Fischer; his grandchildren, Kelsey Williams, Luke Williams, and Aiden Iverson; great grandchild, Kyran Williams; his siblings, Robin Lavalley, Dale Lavalley, and Kathy Fuller; brothers-in-law, Jim Myers and Ray Myers; sister-in-law, Bernadette Eddy, and a wide circle of friends.
His legacy of kindness and devotion will continue in the lives of all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you hug your loved ones tightly, show an act of kindness to others, and take the time to enjoy a beautiful Vermont sunset.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 5, at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church with burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Winooski.
