Obituary

Lane Allen Benoit – 60, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Moretown on Monday morning, February 9, 2015. Born in Burlington on June 27, 1954, he was the son of the late Lanyard "Larry" E. and Iris M. (Sweet) Benoit. Lane was a graduate of Harwood Union High School in Duxbury where he was a successful member of the Varsity Wrestling Team. Throughout his life he remained a dedicated supporter, both in attending matches and as a fundraiser of the Harwood program. Lane began his working career in construction doing drywall installation and went on to form his own company, Lane Benoit Drywall, which he operated for over 30 years. Well known nationally as a consummate hunter and tracker, just as his father Larry was, Lane enjoyed everything outdoors. He shared this love with his son Zeb and together they founded Lane and Zeb Benoit's Mountain Outdoor Adventures. Over the past 10 years these adventures featured hunting seminars, hunting and guide services. Throughout the years, Lane has lived and breathed hunting, tracking and guiding. There isn't an outdoor or adventure magazine published that hasn't featured the prowess and success of his and his family's hunting skills. His memberships included the Waterbury American Legion and the New England Skull and Antler Club. Lane is loved and mourned by his life partner of 29 years, Irene Sherman of Moretown; his children, Zebulon L.S. Benoit of Duxbury, Jamie Ashley and her husband Justin Carpenter of Deltona FL; his siblings, Aloma Abner of Middlesex, Serene Savarese of North Bradford CT, Aleta Corriveau of Duxbury, Zana Evans of Duxbury, Lanny Benoit of Montpelier, Lansing Benoit of Duxbury and Shane Benoit of Middlesex; his lifelong best friend and hunting partner, Dave Coker of Northfield; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by a sister, Lona Burns. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate and reflect on Lane's life on a date and place to be announced this summer. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to Harwood Union High School, c/o Wendy Gilbert, Harwood Wrestling Program, 458 Vermont Route 100, South Duxbury VT 05660.
