Kinney
Oct 29, 1939 — Aug 14, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Nelson Kinney, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Larry was born on October 29, 1939, in Morrisville, Vermont, and he peacefully departed from this world on August 14, 2026, at the age of 86. He spent many wonderful years calling Johnson, Vermont, his home.
Larry's life was marked by his unwavering kindness and generosity. He truly exemplified the spirit of selflessness, always willing to give his shirt off his back to help someone in need. He had an innate ability to connect with others, often engaging in long conversations with complete strangers, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Larry graduated high school and went on to join the Army as a paratrooper during the Korean war era. He was proud of his military service and held it close to his heart. Larry later found work as a crane operator in the construction industry, where he built not just structures but also lifelong friendships.
An avid outdoorsman, Larry loved deer hunting and ice fishing, often sharing laughter and stories with friends and family during these cherished activities. He found joy in gardening, bird watching, challenging himself with Sudoku puzzles, Nascar, and watching Westerns. He also enjoyed playing cards, often gathering with loved ones for a friendly game that would last for hours.
Larry was a devoted supporter of the Boston Red Sox, proudly wearing his team's colors through each season. To those who knew him, the sight of a cardinal now brings warm memories of Larry, a symbol of his lively spirit and love for nature.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Alfreda "Che Che" Kinney; his sons and their families: Jeffrey and Kimberly Kinney, grand kids Madeline Montoy and Colton Kinney, great-grandson Jack Montoy; and Steven Kinney and Brianna, Leylah, and Olivia Rooney; sister, Jacqueline Larsen; brother, Michael Kinney (Pam); sister-in-law, Robin Lowe; brothers-in-law, Joe, Francis, Richard "Buckwheat," David, and Robert Lowe (Jan Fellows); special niece, Kristen Bishop and great-niece, Saylor; special friend, Earl Welch; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, storytelling, and connection, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Alice (Rossier) and Nathan Kinney; siblings, Linda Kneeland, Esta Brayton, and Norman Kinney; brothers-in-law, Michael and Dana; and his parents-in-law, Everett and Theresa Lowe.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 pm at the VFW in Morrisville, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and share stories that echo his warmth and character.
As we prepare to say goodbye, let us remember Larry's big heart and the countless ways he touched our lives. In his honor, we invite everyone to carry forward his spirit of kindness and camaraderie, just as he did every day.
