Laura Fern
Damon
Jan 15, 1927 — Oct 12, 2024
Laura Fern Damon, age 97, of Worcester, Vermont passed away on October 12, 2024, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont.
Laura was born in East Grand Plains, New Mexico to Verne C. and Josie L. Wheeler on January 15, 1927. She graduated from Roswell High School. She married Malcolm F. Damon on November 18, 1945. She enjoyed square dancing, watching sports and politics, flower gardening, and sewing. A self-taught golfer, she was proud to have made a hole-in-one at the Sugarbush golf course in Warren, VT in 1971. Laura and Malcolm moved multiple times in their 67-year marriage. They lived in New Mexico, Connecticut, Florida, Washington, and Vermont. When Malcolm passed away in 2012, Laura moved from Roswell, NM to Worcester, VT where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and David, for twelve years. She spent the last years of her life doing puzzles, keeping up with politics, and no longer able to garden, took up watercolors at the age of 92 to paint beautiful birds and flowers. A fall in May 2024 resulted in a fractured leg and five months of hospital and rehab facilities. Laura was fortunate to have spent the last month of her life with her grandson, Trevor, and his wife, Johnni, enjoying the autumn sunshine, before it was necessary for her to be admitted into McClure Miller Respite House where she passed away after a very short stay.
Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Malcolm F. Damon, her siblings, Alma J. Crockett, Jules V. Wheeler, and Betty J. Clark, her son, Gary F. Damon, and her grandson, Daniel J. Jamieson.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Linda Sue Jamieson, and son-in-law, David E. Jamieson, of Worcester, VT, her grandson, Jason D. Jamieson and his wife, Kathleen, of Montpelier, VT, her grandson, Trevor C. Damon and his wife, Johnni, of West Topsham, VT, and her great grandchildren, Cullen Damon and his wife, Kassy, of Duxbury, VT, and her great granddaughter, Siena Damon, of Duxbury, VT.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made on behalf of Laura F. Damon to McClure Miller Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Hwy, Colchester, VT.
