Ld Elmer
Bliss
Aug 1, 1931 — Oct 9, 2025
The enjoyable life of Ld Elmer Bliss came to an end on earth on October 9, 2025.
Ld was born August 1, 1931 in Morristown in the farmhouse of his father and mother, Hobart M. Bliss and Helen G. (Woodard) Bliss. He attended a one room school before graduating from Peoples Academy. Ld graduated from UVM in 1953. While at UVM he met and fell in love with a very special young woman, Marjorie Ruggles. They were married the following year. Ld and Marjorie enjoyed nearly 58 wonderful years together until Marjorie's death in 2011.
Ld taught Vo-Ag for 4 years and worked on a registered Holstein dairy farm for one year before returning to the home farm in Morristown and Elmore. Ld and Marjorie and their family operated their dairy and maple farm, known as the Bliss Family Farm, for more than 40 years.
They felt their best and nicest accomplishments were their 3 children: Mark Bliss, April (Bliss) Higgins, and Matthew Bliss.
Ld's favorite activities included maple sugaring, riding his tractor, watching farming operations, and taking rides to "spy on" his neighbors!
Ld is survived by his 3 children and their spouses, Robert Higgins and Anette (Bieligk) Bliss; by his sister-in law, Marilyn Bliss and her son, Timothy Bliss and his family; his brother-in-law, Roland Ruggles and his wife, Debbie and their son, Roland (Chip) Ruggles, Jr. and his family; his sister-in-law, Marilee Ruggles and her family; his step-grandchildren, Kim (Higgins) Hill and her children, Brendan and Bri, and John Higgins and his wife, Lesley and their daughter, Wylie; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews; many dear neighbors and friends, including but in no way limited to Debora Wickart and Stan Biasini and their children, Shelby, Ian, and Adele, who were like grandchildren to him, as well as Lois Keith, Edna Snow, Steve Stancliffe, Dave Stevens, Bob Johnson, Don Valentine, Randall Plante and his family, and so many more.
Ld wants to thank all his family, relatives, friends, and neighbors for helping make his life such a wonderful journey!
Ld was predeceased not only by his wife, Marjorie but also by his brother, Steven Bliss and his son, Thomas; his sisters-in-law, Betty (Ruggles) Barrett, Beverly (Ruggles) Gess, and Jean Ruggles; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Ruggles, Rodney Ruggles, and Harry Ruggles, Jr.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral, as that was Ld's wish. If you do wish to do something in Ld's memory, please give someone you love a hug and a kiss.
Ld donated his body to the UVM medical college.
