Obituary

Len passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.

Len was born in Schenectady, New York on October 2, 1937, to the parents of William and Mary Dessormeau. He was the fourth of five children.

He attended the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School System, graduating in the class of 1955. In 1956, Len joined GE on the GE Apprentice Training Program. He graduated from that program in 1959 and accepted a position in Burlington VT as a toolmaker. In 1963 Len transferred with GE to Phoenix, AZ and worked as a Raw Material Specialist. In 1967 Len transferred back to Burlington, VT with GE as a Computer Systems Specialist, a position he held until retirement from GE in 1993 at age 55. In 1993

he opened a business as The Framecrafter, framing paintings for Vermont Artists, businesses, and the general public. He retired again in 1999.

Len met his love, Blanche (Eve) LaChance of Lyndonville, VT in 1959 in Burlington. They were married in June 10, 1961 in Lyndonville, VT at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Len and Eve raised two wonderful children, Michael and Cindy.

Len had several interests. He taught classical guitar during the 1980's. He later played mandolin and banjo and started playing the fiddle in 2002. He was a member of the Northeast Fiddlers Association and the Champlain Valley Fiddler's Club. He also played music with friends on Tuesdays to entertain seniors at the Essex Senior Center. Len also was an avid photographer and belonged to the Lite and Lens Camera Club of Burlington. He received many awards for his photos at the local level and with national competitions sponsored by the PSA (Photographic Society of America). He served as a Vice President of the New England Camera Club Council. He also enjoyed flower gardening at home.

Len enjoyed his family more than anything and with his wife Eve tried to never miss a school event, sporting event or dance recital, horse show, etc. that the children Michael and Cindy were part of as well as of the activities of their grandchildren Devin, Courtney, Travis, and Shania. He was always eager to trout fish with Mike on the streams and rivers whenever possible and attend horse shows with Cindy and her horse Gus. Len and Eve enjoyed bowling together on a Senior league for many years.

Len and Eve enjoyed getting out on the road during their 63 years of marriage. Camping and staying close to nature when the children were young and taking longer trips together later in life as well.

Len volunteered with American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program to furnish rides to patients who needed transportation to the hospital for cancer treatment. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years to deliver meals to those in need.
