Lester Allen Durett passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones after a long and joyful life.

Born on July 11, 1926, to Winfield and Virginia (Pappineau) Durett, Lester and his siblings grew up in Waterbury, VT. During World War II, he proudly served his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving aboard the USS Roi.

On November 14, 1947, Lester married the love of his life, Margorie Montgomery. Together, they built a beautiful life in Colchester, VT, where they raised three children and were involved members of the community. In 1999, they built a home in Williston, VT, embracing their retirement years with family and friends.

Lester and Marge shared a passion for life's simple pleasures—snowmobiling, playing cards, and traveling. However, their greatest passion was square dancing. Saturday nights at the Cobweb in Georgia, VT, were filled with music, laughter, and treasured moments on the dance floor. Even after Marge's passing in 2017, Lester continued to find solace and happiness in dancing, and sharing companionship with Judy Isham.

Lester is remembered as a man of kindness, integrity, and devotion to his family. He is survived by his children, Carol, Cindy (John), and Brian (Kathy); grandchildren Stacy (Brian), Kelly (Jeremiah), and Courtney (Eric); and great-granddaughters Shelby, Kinley, and Hanna. He reunites in peace with his beloved Marge, his parents, siblings, and great-granddaughter Clara.

A celebration of Lester's life will take place on May 3, 2025 at Essex Alliance Church (37 Old Stage Rd, Essex Jct., VT) from 2-4pm.
