Lynn Arthur Sanders, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on 68 Sanders Drive, on November 2, 2024. He was born in Northfield on September 17, 1928, the son of Charles Albert Sanders and Reta (Collins) Sanders. He left school after 8th grade because he was needed to help his parents on the homestead. He did a variety of farm chores including assisting in planting crops and assisting his dad in the woodlot, cutting and dragging the logs out with the help of the horses, cutting and delivering to clients, and assisted at the mill making lumber.
Lynn married the love of his life, Betty Ruth (Kimball) Sanders on September 1, 1947. Lynn was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He had a large garden each year, and he enjoyed sharing his bounty with family, friends, and the Northfield Senior Center. He enjoyed reloading ammunition, belonged to a shooting team, bowling team, baseball team, playing horseshoes, riding his 1949 Harley with the suicide clutch, playing checkers and chess, ice skating with grandchildren, winter cookouts with family, snowmobiling with friends and family, boating with family and camping at various places along the Lake Champlain Islands. He also enjoyed going to dances with family and friends every weekend and gathering for sing-alongs with family and friends.
Lynn held various jobs over the years including the Asbestos Mill in Northfield Falls and the Nantanna. He was a water dowser and found water for many people over the years. He was foreman at the Tamarack Farm owned by Chris DeNeergaard, a Special of the Dept. of Fish and Game, retired from TDS Telecom at the age of 70, was on the Northfield SelectBoard for a number of years, and served on the Northfield Senior Center Board of Directors for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Sanders Dodge (Richard); one sibling, Reginald Sanders of Roxbury; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Sanders Zandy (Keith), Jason Sanders (Laura), Larissa Dodge Bailey, Teri Dodge and granddaughter-in-law, Suzanne DeLong, Mary Sanders, Jamie Sanders, Justin Babcock, and Heather Babcock Williams (Nick); 8 great-grandchildren, Alexandra Zandy, Sophie Bailey, Harper Bailey, Natalie Bailey, Tre Torres, Celina Torres, Delia Babcock, and Jonah Babcock; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Betty Sanders, and his two sons, Gary Sanders and Gregory Sanders, he is predeceased by siblings, Burton Sanders and his wife, Barbara, Rachel Sanders LeFebvre Willett and her husband, Richard, Winona Hatch and her husband, Ira; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sanders, and Martha Jerry and her husband, Arnold; brothers-in-law, Wayne Kimball and wife, Patricia, Ross Kimball, Horace Kimball, John Kimball and wife, Beth, and Harold Kimball and wife, Judy.
A graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield will be conducted Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:30 am, with a Celebration of Life following immediately after at the American Legion Post 63 in Northfield.
