Obituary

Margaret Hendee, best known as Peggy, 81, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026 surrounded by love with her family and friends. Peggy, also known for her spark and feisty personality, kept these right up to the very end.

She was born in Burlington, VT to the late Doris Elizabeth (Mable) and Milton Hall White. Peggy grew up farming with her parents, brothers, and sister in South Hero and playing at White's Beach, before marrying her beloved husband, Ivan C. Hendee, in 1965. She worked in the kitchen at the now Fletcher Allen Health Care for well over 40 years, working her way up through many positions to the Line Supervisor before retiring. She and her husband also worked side-by-side on building their own home, landlording, and on numerous projects helping their family and friends.

Peggy loved helping people, giving hugs to those she loved, Elvis, and flamingoes. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and card games, traveling with family (as long as it was by car/truck), spending time with family and friends, snowmobiling, keeping her paperwork in order, sewing, drinking hot chocolate, being bribed with bananas, collecting Beanie Babies, and making (and eating!) apple pies with vanilla ice cream, deviled eggs, and desserts with her grandchildren. Above all else she loved her family and being a grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Michelle Harkey of Wilmington, NC and Patricia Hendee of Fairfax; grandchildren Nicholas, William, and Katherine; and extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, siblings, and many friends.
