Obituary

Margaret R. Ticehurst, 86, a lifelong resident of Winooski, VT entered eternal peace on February 22, 2026.

Margaret was born on August 9, 1939, in Burlington, VT to Francis A. Johnson, Sr and Ida (Rathe) Johnson.

On October 10, 1958, she married James J. Ticehurst, who predeceased her in November of 2018. They had 60 wonderful years together before James' passing.

Margaret leaves behind her son Michael and his wife Louise Ticehurst of Swanton, VT; her daughter-in-law Brenda Ticehurst of Essex, VT; granddaughter Alexandria and her husband Christopher Mount; grandson Nicholas and his wife Meranda Ticehurst and their children; and her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Tony Martello. She is also survived by her nieces Laurie, Cheryl, Kathy and nephew Anthony; her great-grandchildren Winnifred and Arthur Mount, and by several other nieces and nephews.

Margaret was predeceased by her son, Stephen Ticehurst in 2018, her sister Mary Yergeau in 2009, and her brother Francis Johnson, Jr in 2002.

In the early years, Margaret (affectionately known as Peg) enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time camping at Seashore State Park in Virginia. In 1977, she and James, along with Kay and Tony, went on a trip of a lifetime to Egypt. For many years, there was much laughter in retelling the story of how Peg's husband almost sold her for 4 camels and 6 goats.

Margaret was the first female in Vermont to attain an Extra Class Ham radio license, operating with the call sign KD1M. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was fluent in the French and German language.

Margaret's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 3 St. Peter Street, Winooski, on Friday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the spring at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
