Mary Laura Drown, 73, of Northfield, VT, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 16, 2026, in her home.
She was born in Arlington, VT, on October 8, 1952, to James and Phyllis Stone. She attended Arlington High School and graduated from the adult degree program at Norwich University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was also a dedicated employee of Norwich University for over 30 years, working in the HR Department. On July 1, 1979, she married Reginald K. Drown in her family home in Sunderland, VT.
Mary was active in the Northfield community, volunteering at the Senior Center and participating in the Labor Day festivities. She and her husband were also former members of the Northfield American Legion Post 63. Mary was the definition of a hockey mom and a big fan of the Norwich University hockey team, where you would find her on weekends, in the stands, cheering for her own children and grandchildren. For many years, Mary was an active member of the Methodist Church and was a strong believer in her faith and her relationship with God. For the last few years, she was a member of the Northfield Bible Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Drown; sisters, LuLu Wright, Jozy Bruso, and Bonnie Bruso; brother, Leroy Stone; grandson, Hoyt Hardin of Wetumpka, AL; and her lifelong cherished friend, Anne Weeks of Manchester, VT.
Mary is survived by her children, Danette (Mike) Hardin, Dana (Rebecca) Drown, Dalyn (Emily) Drown, Paul Clayton, and Taylor Drown; and grandchildren, Connor and Cameron Drown, Garret Hardin, Jackson and Reese Clayton, Cecelia, Tucker, and Sadie Drown, and Mitchell Haney. She is further survived by her sisters, Rose Keough, Diane Hawley, and Helen Weller; brothers, Eugene Stone and Clifford Stone; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all her doctors at Green Mountain Family Practice and CVMC, as well as all the nurses (Emily, Gigi, and Stacy) with home health & hospice, and Pastor Paul Ciampaglia and Northfield Bible Fellowship. A special thank you to Ben Black and Brittany Hallock for their compassion and care for their mother during the last few years of her life.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10th at 9 a.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, with Rev. Paul Ciampaglia of Northfield Bible Fellowship officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the American Legion Post 63 in Northfield, VT. Memorial donations in Mary's name can be made to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
