Obituary

Mary Picard (Nomicos), 99, of Shelburne, passed away on January 12th, 2026, with family by her side at the Arbors Memory Care Facility in Shelburne, VT while under Hospice Care due to Lung Cancer and Alzheimer's Disease.

Mary was born to Dr. Pericles and Lilli (Schmidt) Nomicos on January 2, 1927, in Athens, Greece. She went to schools in Athens graduating from High School in 1945. She met her future husband, Donald Picard while he worked as a military attaché at the American embassy in Athens and were wed on November 12th, 1949.

Mary then moved to Vermont with her husband who pursued a degree in Political Science at the University of Vermont. Mary was a homemaker who lovingly took care of her three children. She also worked part-time at the Shelburne Museum Gift Shop.

Mary was brought up in the Catholic faith attending church regularly. She actively participated in her children's school activities, was a parent volunteer with the Shelburne Beach Summer swimming instruction program and often worked as a volunteer for the Shelburne political elections and polling activities with her husband Donald. She also helped with makeup/costumes for the Shelburne Theater Group "Korny Kapers" for many years.

Mary's hobbies included baking, sewing, knitting, shopping, playing cards and traveling. Most summers were spent at Shelburne or Burlington beaches where they loved to swim and soak up the sunshine. They also made numerous trips back to Athens, Greece to visit Mary's family, as well as to England and California to visit their kids. Mary loved hosting or attending monthly tea parties with her three close Shelburne neighborhood friends Mary Lou Sutherland, Carol Adams, and Barbara Kent for many years.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 77 years Donald, her sister Aliki Xouris and her husband Theodoros in Greece, her brother Nick Nomicos and his wife Titika in Greece, and her grandson Evan Coolidge, as well as many family members and old friends.

Mary is survived by son Keith Picard and wife Helen of Reading England, daughter Cynthia Baranski and husband Chet of Shelburne, granddaughter Marissa Coolidge and partner Will Taylor of VT, grandson David Coolidge II and partner Jill Lanpher of VT, great granddaughter Harley Coolidge, daughter Tish Chung and husband Kai of Murphys, CA, grandson Beau Knapp and partner Claudia Herbert of CA, grandson Robby Knapp and wife Glorymar (Moreno Duque) of NV, great grandson Ryan (father Robby), great granddaughter Audrianna (father Beau) and many dearly loved nieces & nephews.

The Picard family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Amelia Gennari, Hailey (and other co-workers) of Bayada Hospice and the Arbors nurses and staff.
