Obituary

Maureen Ann Griffin

June 14, 1938 – October 31, 2026

Maureen Ann Griffin of Westford passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026. Born to the late John and Nellie Brodbine, Maureen was pre-deceased by her siblings Jack Brodbine, Emily Cook and Tom Kehoe. She grew up in Lynn Massachusetts where she attended Catholic school and spent summers on Cape Cod. Maureen graduated from Simmons College in Boston where she studied biology. She worked as a researcher at Harvard University then went on to attain a master’s degree in education from Salem State College. She began her teaching career at Salem High School. In 1962, Maureen married Peter Griffin. Together, they moved to Brookside, New Jersey in 1970 where she devoted her time to raising a family. Maureen moved to Vermont in 2003 to be closer to her grown children.

Maureen finished her professional career at Burlington High School and settled in Westford. She was enchanted with the natural beauty of Vermont despite the challenging winters and loved the time spent with her grandchildren and cats. Maureen was an avid reader, a lover of art, theater and travel. She shared these passions with her family.

Maureen is survived by her children, Michael Griffin of New Hampshire, Beth Gainey (Randy) of Virginia and Jonathan Griffin (Kristi) of Westford and their father Peter Griffin.

She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Justin and Hannah Griffin, Griffin and Marsden (Jamin) VanOrder, and Madeline and Maeve Griffin. Maureen is also survived by ten nieces whom she adored.

Visiting hours will be Monday, November 9th, 11:30 at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St in Richmond followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church in Richmond at 1:00pm and a reception for family and friends will follow the service at Waterworks in Winooski.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sterling House in Richmond for their care and support over the last two years.
