Obituary

Melvin "Melle" Beam Lippy passed peacefully on February 13, 2024 at Heaton Woods Residence in

Montpelier, VT. She was born on July 30, 1927 to James and Grizelda "Zelda" Beam in Upperco,

MD, also known affectionately as "Lamb City". There she grew up with her four siblings and many

local extended family members.

Melle was a country girl at heart who enjoyed time spent with her siblings and cousins at the local

swimming hole "Hickory Bottom" and helping her mother in the flower and vegetable gardens.

When she was in her teen years she spent time at Pretty Boy Reservoir and Tuscarora Lake, PA

with her peers, including her future husband, Woody. Of one picnic at Pretty Boy with Woody

prior to marriage she reminisced that "things got right warm that evening!".

Melle's reverence for the natural world around her was evident in her love of flowers and her

talent for growing spectacular roses. She exuded timelessness in her classic style even if it wasn't

necessarily practical. At 78 years old she summited Mount Worcester, a four plus hour sojourn,

with fashionable bowling style shoes! She not only loved playing golf, fishing and dancing, she was

also excellent in all activities. It was quite possibly her dancing that caught the eye of her eventual

husband at the dance where they met.

Melle began working as a secretary during the war years, starting in 1943. After marriage in 1948,

her life was devoted to raising her three children. She returned to work as a secretary for the

guidance office of North Carroll High School in Green Mount, MD in the 1960's until her retirement

in 1977. She made many friends in her work association and kept many after her retirement.

She and Woody purchased an Airstream camper after his early retirement and spent time visiting

the country and having adventures. Later they parked the camper at Trail's End Campground on

Chincoteague Bay, VA. Family would descend for visits and time was spent going out on the boat in

the tributaries, fishing, crabbing, playing Sequence and swatting at mosquitoes. Later, she and

Woody relocated to Clermont, Florida where they formed many friendships.

After her husband's passing, she lived independently in their park model home in Florida. She

remained active in her golf community and played through her 89th year. Her later years were

filled with solving crossword puzzles, reading books and spending time in the company of family.

Her witty mind often voiced brutally honest and funny observations that her family has coined

"Melvin-isms".

Melle was predeceased by her husband Woodrow Lippy and daughter Vicki Hill. Those of us left

behind hold that both were there to greet her with smiles, hugs, kisses and maybe a song or

two. She leaves behind her son Scott Lippy and his wife Jane of Frederick, MD, daughter Sandra

Denner and her husband Jon of Worcester, VT. Also, her five grandchildren and their spouses and

partners: Jason Denner(Ettie Lipner) of Boulder, CO, Kelly Fridinger(Jim Budis) of Bolton, VT, Jon

Fridinger (Shayna Fridinger) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Colleen Lippy Musson of Worcester, VT and

Ehren Hill (Erin Riley) of Plainfield, VT. Son-in-law Paul Hill (Theresa Lever) of Montpelier, VT.

Much beloved niece Robin Kidd of Littlestown, PA. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren:

Allison Vandersee, Riley Fridinger and Jacob Fridinger of Cedar Rapids, IA. Aislinn Keefe of

Bolton,VT. Tobin and Zach Denner of Boulder, CO. We all will miss her radiant presence, undying

love and support, and her beautiful smile.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Heaton Woods and Bayada

Hospice for helping to make her last months peaceful and comfortable.

There will be a private family gathering for the inurnment at Bushnell National Cemetery in

Brooksville, FL on March 25,2024.
