Obituary

On September 18th, 2024, N. Peter Everett, passed away at the age of 76, peacefully at his home in Morrisville, Vermont, surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born on February 13th, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts to Norman Lamont Everett and Grayce Harriet (Wetzel) Everett. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1966. He then continued his education at Boston State University, where he studied to be a physical education teacher. Pete was a P.E. teacher in Stoughton, Massachusetts from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. He continued substitute teaching in Morrisville, Vermont, up until recently. He also was a long-time sports official, doing football, softball, basketball, and baseball.

On August 1st, 1970, Pete married the love of his life, Mary Jo (Venckus) Everett. Together, they raised two children, Pete Jr and Heather. Pete had a passion for all things sports, education, working around the yard, chopping wood, working out, but most of all his family. Pete could always be seen cheering on his three grandchildren in whatever endeavors they were participating in. In his down time, Pete could be found watching old cowboy movies, high school & division 2/3 softball and football or listening to his favorite band Sha Na Na or old-time radio shows.

Pete had a passion for Stoughton High School athletics, even while retiring to Vermont. Pete was so proud to watch his son, daughter and grandson carry on his athletic legacy at Stoughton High. In 1998, Pete was inducted into the Stoughton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, which was an honor that he cherished forever.

Pete was preceded in death by his father Norman and his mother Grayce, and his beloved Auntie Laura and Uncle Ray. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo, his son Peter, daughter Heather and her husband Alan McGinley, grandchildren Amber Everett, Liam McGinley, and Johnny McGinley. He is also survived by his brother Paul Everett and his wife Patricia and sister Gayle (Everett) LaCasse. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In accordance with Pete's wishes, in an attempt to continue educating students, Pete has donated his body to Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. There will be two celebrations of life, one in Vermont and one in his hometown of Stoughton Massachusetts, that the family will release at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pete Everett memorial scholarship fund that will benefit a Stoughton High School senior, football, and softball player.
