Norma Jean
Barrows
Oct 2, 1932 — Aug 15, 2026
Norma J. Barrows (Irish), 93, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of August 15th.
She was born on October 2, 1932, in St. Albans to Harry & Ruth (Tatro) Irish of Franklin, VT.
Norma spent her childhood in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1950. She attended Johnson State College and graduated with her bachelor's degree in education. It was there that she met Ralph Barrows and they married on September 12, 1954, and shared 63 years of love, laughter, and adventure.
She worked as a substitute teacher at Stowe Elementary for a few years and after the birth of her two boys chose to stay home to raise them.
She enjoyed cooking, knitting, and sewing. She shared her love of cooking and fiber art with her granddaughters, Mariah and Grace.
Norma loved traveling the world with Ralph and they visited every continent except Antarctica. She would bring back beautiful pieces of local art for her family and friends.
One of Norma's most enjoyable activities was having her daily "coffee" with her network of friends. There wasn't much that happened in town that didn't get discussed. The transfer of information in this group exceeded the speed of the internet today.
Norma is survived by her sons and their spouses, Bruce and wife Theresa of Stowe and Jeffrey and wife Beverly of New York; her grandchildren, Mariah, Grace, Max, Eamon and Mackenzie; great grandchildren, Augustine "Gus" and Penelope "Pipaa", and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Barrows, her brothers, Robert, Philip and Stuart Irish and sisters, Winifred Gates DeGoosh and Ruth Ann Cramton.
As per Norma's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
