Norma Jean Rigby
Norma Rigby of Colchester died unexpectedly on January 10, 2025.
She was born to Tessie and Bernard Metzler in Dunkirk Ohio on March 17, 1941. Growing up she moved around a lot with Tessie who was a single mother. She attended many different schools growing up and graduated from Lima Senior High in Lima Ohio in 1959. In 1961 she met Barry Rigby and a year later they were married. The two of them were married for 50 years before Barry died 12 years ago. Together they had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. With Barry's job they moved several times from Ohio, Massachusetts, Texas, Missouri and then Vermont. They lived for 15 years in the St. Louis area before they moved to Vermont in 1986 where she lived the rest of her life. She is survived by her children ; Scott Rigby (Lorraine), Stacy Simays (David), Elizabeth Hathaway (Brian) and Judy Barrowman ( Kristian) . Her grandchildren ; Stephanie Gingras (Justin), Nicholas Kavanaugh, Dakota Lavalette, Christina Suprenant ( Jake), Cory Hathaway, Cathryn Rigby, Meghan Rigby, Lief Barrowman and Lukas Barrowman. Norma was the matriarch and backbone of the Rigby family known by many names; Mom, Grandma, and Great as her great grandchildren fondly called her. She was always there for her family whether to talk on the phone, or to be there in person. She was always thinking of others first no matter what.
Norma was always very involved and committed in her church over the years in many ways. From helping with food and flowers or as a lay reader and chalice bearer during the service. She made sure that her children were all brought up in the church. Many of her family's most special memories over the years were spent at church events and many of Norma's closest friends are those that she met through church over the years. She will always be known for her faith and compassion for others.
Visiting hours will be held at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, 30 Morgan Parkway Williston VT, Thursday January 16th from 4-7pm. A funeral will be held the following day at the church at 11:00am with a reception to follow.
