Patricia Mary
Carty
Feb 25, 1931 — Feb 17, 2025
Patricia Carty, a lifelong resident of Colchester, passed away peacefully at her home on February 17, 2025, at the age of 93.
Patricia was born on February 25, 1931, to the parents of Irene (Collins) and Harold Parsons. She was one of three sisters known as the trio Betty, Pat and Sue. She grew up in Colchester and attended Cathedral High School where she earned the academic honor of Salutatorian and delivered the welcoming address to her graduating class of 1949. After high school, Pat worked as a bookkeeper in downtown Burlington. On January 4, 1958, when she was 27, she married her childhood friend Roland (Sonny) Carty and together they raised five children.
Patricia was someone who was in perpetual motion, so dust never had time to settle beneath her feet. Rarely did you see her sit for long, except to maybe capture the warmth of a sunny day on her face or listen to the sermon at Sunday mass. She was a lifelong member of the Colchester community and Holy Cross Parish. In her younger years, she was a familiar face in the neighborhood working at the Colchester voting polls, knocking on doors as a town census taker or volunteering at COTS in Burlington.
Pat loved to dance. Almost any kind of music could start her feet tapping, even later in life when her mobility became hindered. She soon discovered a walker wasn't just for walking but could keep her dancing too! Pat spent many Vermont summers in her garden, growing, harvesting and canning fresh vegetables for her family and neighbors to enjoy in the winter months. From a small girl, red would be her favorite color, so it was only fitting that she would join a local Red Hat Society. She cultivated many friendships over the years with this special group and always looked forward to their weekly Friday afternoon lunch dates.
Pat is predeceased by both her parents, her husband Roland, her two sisters Elizabeth LeBlanc and Susan Bouchard, and two special uncles, Earl Parsons and Jimmy Collins.
She is survived by her five children, Kevin Carty of Colchester and his partner Amy, Karen Carty of Milton and her partner Mike, Kenneth Carty of West Chazy, NY, Kyle Carty of St. Albans and his partner Wilma and Kathleen Carty of Hinesburg and her partner Brent. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Martell of Milton, Amanda Martell of Mt. Holly, NC, Jonathan Carty and Kayleigh Carty, both of Colchester and two great grandchildren Jordyn Lafromboise of Milton and Lucas Stroupe of Mt. Holly, NC. Also surviving Pat is her sister-in-law Barbara Augustino of Burlington and cousins Ronald Collins and his wife Carol of Grand Isle and Susie DeVoid of Colchester. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews. Pat also leaves behind two very special friends, her cat Willow, who was her constant companion over the last ten years and her neighbor and caregiver Cindy Bolduc. Cindy's compassion and tenacious commitment to Pat was a special gift to both Pat and her family. We carry heartfelt gratitude for Cindy having helped us make it possible to honor our mother's wishes to experience the end of her life in her own home. We could not have done it without her.
Pat was a person with a humble inner strength that guided her through her final years when declining health robbed her of her swift mobility and sharp mind. She was tougher than she knew. Patricia's family would like to thank the personal caregivers who spent time caring for her over the past four years, as well as Laura Turner, Pat's favorite rockstar nurse from UVM Home Health and Heidi Little and Christie Randall, both also from UVM Home Health whose support played an important role in helping Pat age in place and remain in her own home.
Patricia's life will be celebrated on Saturday May 17, 2025 at 11:00am with a mass and burial at Holy Cross Church in Colchester. Reception will immediately follow.
