Patrick James
Mcgrath
Jul 7, 1951 — Feb 2, 2024
Patrick "Pat" James McGrath, of Essex, Vermont, died peacefully on February 2, 2024 at the age of 72 after a brief battle with cancer. He was stoic to the end.
He was born on July 7, 1951 to John Edward McGrath and Doris Loretta (Martin) McGrath of Winooski, Vermont and was a member of the Winooski High School Class of 1969. He lived in Colchester, Vermont for many years with his family.
Pat was honored to be the longest standing employee at Heritage Toyota, where he worked for 51 years and 28 days, right up until his death. He was a die hard Cowboys and Yankees fan, enjoyed many years playing baseball and softball, and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 91. He was well known for taking long drives around all his old stomping grounds.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dogs Toby and Lucy. He is survived by his brother Alan (Sandy) McGrath, daughter Myria (Danielle) Manahan, son Dane (Bridget) McGrath, his much loved grandchildren Kaden, Clara, and Ruthie, and his grand-pups Baloo and Emma. He also leaves behind his loving girlfriend Sally Gratton, special lifelong friends, Bob, Kirk, and Pete - "the boys," and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at UVM Medical Center, Birchwood Terrace Rehab, and Miller McClure Respite House that helped make his final journey a peaceful one.
A public celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the American Legion in Colchester, Vermont. Donations in memory of Pat may be made to the Miller McClure Respite House or the Humane Society of Chittenden County.
