Paul E. Dubuque, 75 of Essex Junction, VT passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026 at the Our Lady of the Meadows Care Home in Richford, VT.
Paul was born on December 19, 1950 in Northfield, VT, the second of five children to Lawrence
Dubuque and Cecile (Bedard) Dubuque. Paul grew up in Northfield, VT and was a member of the Northfield Marauders varsity basketball team, graduating in 1968. Paul married Valerie Matthews in May of 1979 and they made Essex Junction, VT their lifelong home. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, photography enthusiast and New York/NewEngland sports fan. He coached his children in various sports and was a volunteer with both Essex Youth Hockey and Little League.
His retirement years brought a youthful new chapter entirely focused on his grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Lonnie and Cecile, his father and mother-in-law Howard and Catherine, and his wife Valerie.
Paul is survived by his children Damon Dubuque (Istar Arroyo), Adam Dubuque (Amber Walsh) and Kylee Dubuque; his grandchildren Sierra Matte, Dylan Godin, Lyra Dubuque, Eva Duchesneau, Leo Dubuque and Izabelle Dubuque who all brought him great joy in recent years; his siblings David Dubuque, Claire (Moe) Matte, Tony (Bethany) Dubuque, Larry (Jodie) Dubuque; sister-in-law Barbara (Richard) Rogers, brother-in-law David Matthews and dear cousins Ed and Laurie Matthews as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends who became family over the years.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the memory care center at the Our Lady of the Meadows Care Home and Bayada Hospice Care. Their kindness and patience brought Paul great comfort and dignity during his final year.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation hours. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Paul will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was affectionately known as "Papa" to his six grandchildren.
